Eagles Win Consolation At FRC Tournament

Sullivan’s baseball team defeated Hermann 5-2 on Saturday in the consolation game of the Four Rivers Conference Tournament.
Sullivan improved to 2-1 and won back-to-back games for the first time since April 2019.
The Eagles overcame a tough matchup against Hermann’s Parker Anderson to post the victory.
"Hermann's starter was a stud," said Sullivan's Head Coach Ian Whitson. "But we had no slouches. Drake Gawer was a bulldog, Schmidt gave us some relief, and Skaggs shut the door. We never once quit and have a never say die attitude."
The Eagles scored early in the first inning when Gavin Schmidt came across home plate. Drake Gawer was the starting pitcher for Sullivan and at first walked the leadoff hitter but got strikeouts to end the inning.
The pitching and defense shined for both teams. Hermann didn't get their first hit of the game until the bottom of the third inning. The Bearcats got another hit in the inning when the wind blew the ball fair. Gawer pitched out of the inning though and left two runners stranded on base.
The Bearcats had their big push in the bottom of the sixth inning. They had runners at second and third base with no outs. Lane Kohlbusch cleared the bases when he blasted a triple. He sent two runners home and Hermann took the lead for the first time.
Sullivan answered back right away in their next at-bat. It started when Cambrian Koch was walked. Trey Behrens scored Koch home and the game was tied. Sullivan took the lead when another run came across the plate. Anderson threw roughly 108 pitches before Kenny Hoener III came in for some relief.
Sullivan secured the win when they scored another run. The Eagles picked up three hits and scored four runs in that inning.
Gawer picked up the win for Sullivan and he pitched four innings. He struck out seven Bearcats. Schmidt pitched in relief and Dayton Skaggs was the closer.
Hermann only went through two of their pitchers. Anderson pitched six innings and gave up two runs. He issued four walks and struck out eight.
Hoener pitched one inning and gave up one walk. He struck out two.
Behrens had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles. Jordan Dicus was 1-1 and scored a RBI. Lucas Parsons went 3-1. Schmidt went 1-2 and had two RBIs.
