Eagles Victorious In Two Games Against Steelville And Waynesville

The Eagles are collapsing opponents. Sullivan has been dominant and uses their losses for motivation. After their heartbreaking loss to Potosi at home, the boys defeated the Cardinals, 4-1. The Eagles kept the same momentum and collapsed Waynesville on Saturday, 5-4.

Steelville

Head Coach Ian Whitson could not have been happier with Drake Gawer’s performance on the mound on Wednesday. Gawer put on a dominant performance for all seven innings in the bout. Gawer struck out the Steelville Cardinals 14 times and only gave up one run on two hits. The Eagles rallied behind Gawer’s leadership and defeated the Cardinals, 4-1.

In the first inning, Sullivan drew first blood right away. Cambrian Koch was the first Eagle at the plate and landed on a dropped third strike. Koch then stole second and took third on a passed ball. He scored when Gavin Schmidt hit a successful sacrifice fly to left field.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Eagles sealed away Steelville. Schmidt was hit by the pitch and then stole second. He advanced to third on an error and came home when Dayton Skaggs landed on first on an error. Chase Blue was hit by the pitch and then he stole second after Skaggs stole third. Lucas Parsons singled on a hard ground ball to left and scored both runners.

Waynesville

Sullivan’s pitching was on point again. Koch started on the mound and lasted five innings. He only gave up three runs on five hits. He tallied four strikeouts. Schmidt pitched two innings in relief and gave up only one hit and one run. He struck out one batter. The Eagles defeated the Tigers by one on Saturday, 5-4.

In the fifth inning, Sullivan got their runs started. Waynesville jumped on the scoreboard first at the bottom of the first and Sullivan finally answered back. Blue doubled on a fly ball to left and Parsons followed with a walk. Gawer hit a fly ball single to center and the bases were loaded. Jordan Rice hit a successful sacrifice fly and Blue scored. The bases were loaded again when Mitchell Garner was walked. Koch scored the runner when landed on a ground ball single. The Tigers answered back with two runs of their own at the bottom of the half inning.

In the sixth inning, the Eagles took the lead by one. Seth Valley hit a line drive single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. He stole third before Schmidt singled on a fly ball to center. Schmidt stole second and Valley stole home. Skaggs was hit by the pitch. Schmidt  stole third and Skaggs stole second. Blue was walked and the bases were loaded. Schmidt scored when Nolan Ulrich was hit by the pitch.

In the seventh inning, Sullivan secured the win. Koch walked and then stole second. He advanced to third on a passed ball before a strikeout. Koch scored when Schmidt hit a fly ball and reached on an error made by the second baseman.

Schmidt led Sullivan at the plate and went 2-4. The Eagles ran wild on the base paths and finished with eight stolen bases.
