Eagles Surge Past Both Opponents At Jamboree On Tuesday Evening
Sullivan’s baseball team shined at the jamboree. The boys thundered against Orchard Farm and Wright City with the runs raining down on both teams. The Eagles topped Orchard Farms, 9-3. Sullivan’s late game motivation defeated Wright City, 5-2.
Orchard Farms
The Eagles soared in their first showing on the field. There was not a shortage of scores on Sullivan's side. The hitters connected on balls to drive the runs home. Sullivan collapsed Orchard Farms, 9-3.
In the first inning, Orchard Farm was the first to score. They landed on the scoreboard with two runs. Sullivan answered back with three runs. Cambrian Koch hit a ground ball single and advanced to second on a successful sacrifice fly. Gavin Schmidt struck on a powerful ground ball double and Koch was scored. Dayton Skaggs singled on a ground ball and Schmidt scored on an error made by the left fielder. Skaggs advanced to third on the same error. Skaggs gave Sullivan the lead when he scored on a wild pitch.
In the second inning, the Eagles grabbed another run. Gavin Schmidt came in on the pitcher’s mound and held Orchard Farms from scoring in the second. Anden Carey singled on a line drive to center and Grant Halmick came in as a courtesy runner. Hammock scored on a successful sacrifice from Lane Blankenship.
In the fourth inning, Sullivan secured the win. Both teams scored a run each in the third inning. At Sullivan’s last at bat, the Eagles tallied four more runs. Kaleb Keen connected on a line drive single to center and Alex Towes followed with the same thing. The bases were loaded when Grant Halmick was hit by the pitch. Seth Valley bunt into a fielder’s choice that scored Keen. Towes scored when Koch was walked and Halmick scored when he stole home. Valley scored after Schmidt smacked a double to center.
Wright City
Sullivan continued the powerhouse hitting in their next game. The Eagles scored early and outscored the Wildcats again in the third. Sullivan defeated Wright City, 5-2.
In the first inning, Sullivan came alive early. Koch reached on an error and took second on the same. Blue singled on a ground ball that advanced Koch. Koch then scored on a pickoff attempt at first and Schmidt singled on a ground ball. Blue was called out advancing to second. Schmidt scored when Lucas Parsons hit a successful sacrifice fly.
In the third inning, the Eagles took the lead and their defense secured the win. After a strikeout, Schmidt walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Blankenship scored Schmidt on a ground ball single. Parsons scored Skaggs on a hard ground ball double. Blankenship was scored when Halmick reached on a dropped third strike. Sullivan took the 5-0 lead, but Wright City answered back with two runs at their next at bat.
