Eagles Football Beat Union Wildcats 30-7 In District Semifinal Rematch

In the district semifinals, the 8-2 Eagles football team soared over Union (4-7) with a 30-7 victory on Friday, Nov. 3. After a first round bye, Sullivan returned fully rested and prepared to take down the Wildcats at home.

The No. 4 seeded Wildcats were seeking redemption after the Eagles snapped an eight-season losing streak when beating them 34-27 in September. Union had also been on a roll lately, beating their opponents by over 40 points in each of the previous three games before their rematch with Sullivan.

The Eagles were coming off of three dominating wins as well, which were against St. James, Owensville and North County, resulting in an undefeated October for Sullivan. Their defense held their opponents down to just 36 points.

On Friday night, Union only could score one touchdown as Sullivan forced five turnovers. Seth Valley caught two interceptions and Curtis Rall clutched one towards the one. Colton Brendel and Dominic Ransom both had fumble recoveries.

Defenders Chase Blue and Jeremiah Rodriguez led the Eagles with 7 tackles, while Dayton Skaggs and Kane Strehl both had 5 tackles and 3 assists each. Ransom led the team with 9 assisted tackles, with Rall coming in second with 4.

For offense, Franky Erxleben had a rushing total of 270 yards on 20 carries, averaging 13.5 yards. He also had two receptions for 30 yards.

Ransom rushed for 37 yards on 8 carries, Blue gained 26, Skaggs picked up 10 and Mark Jennings had 3.

Quarterback Robert York II passed for 66 yards, completing 4 out of 7 attempts. He also scrambled for 38 yards.
