Eagles Battle In Lions And Tigers’ Dens

In week eight, the Eagles (3-20) struggled to overcome Northwest (10-9) and St. James (11-13). They kept both games close early on but could not catch up at the end. Sullivan lost 55-45 to the Lions and 62-39 to the Tigers.

Northwest (Cedar Hill)

The Northwest match was rescheduled to Monday, Feb. 10, after inclement weather previously postponed it.

The Eagles racked up 20 rebounds, seven assists and six steals but surrendered five fouls. They went 12-12 on their free throws while sinking 14-43 of their field goals and 5-14 of their threes.

Peyton Malady topped the Eagles with 12 points. He shot a perfect 4-4 on the charity stripe and a 2-3 from the arc. The 5’10 junior also stripped away two steals and dished out an assist.

Robert York torched the boards, leading Sullivan with eight rebounds. He also racked up 10 points, two assists and a steal.

Chris Glaser broke away with 11 points and an assist.

Landen Doza dropped 5 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Jared Toews tallied 5 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Cooper Donner picked up three rebounds, two steals and 2 points.

St. James

Sullivan played its fourth consecutive conference game against the Tigers on Friday, Feb. 14. The Eagles led 13-12 to start the second quarter and 22-20 at the half. However, Sullivan failed to catch up in the final sixteen minutes, eventually falling 62-39.

Head coach Kobe Wands explained why the Eagles lost their momentum to St. James halfway through. “We executed our game plan in the first half extremely well, and anytime you’re playing a team that plays that fast… it’s like a track meet,” he stated. “But then comes [the] second half. We simply got too fatigued and got tired, and they went a little deeper on their bench than we did. And once we started to lose the sense of pace that we wanted to play at, we fell into the hands of St. James and how fast they wanted to play.”
