Eagles Baseball Finished Regular Season

The Sullivan Eagles baseball team finished out their regular season this week. The boys played two away games and fell in both. These two games made this their third loss in a row. The Eagles could be saving their energy for the district play that begins against Salem on Monday at Owensville. Sullivan slayed Salem earlier this season, 10-3. The Eagles lost to Washington on Monday, 11-1. They fell the next day at DeSoto, 3-1.

Washington

The Eagles lost the lead early and couldn’t recover. They drew first blood, but the Blue Jays tallied six runs at their first at bat. Washington surged past Sullivan, 11-1.

In the first inning, Sullivan drew first blood with one run. Cambrian Koch hit a fly ball single and Gavin Schmidt hit a ground ball and landed on an error. Koch advanced to third on the same play. Chase Blue scored Koch with a sacrifice ground ball. The Eagles couldn’t connect on another run and Washington tallied six runs in the first inning. The Jays added five more runs during the game to secure the win.

Sullivan struggled on the mound with Lane Blankenship giving up seven runs and Dayton Skaggs giving up four runs. The combined pitchers gave up eight hits.

DeSoto

The DeSoto Dragons got the action started early on Tuesday. They tallied two runs in the first and picked up another run in the fifth inning. The Eagles tried to recover by scoring a run in the sixth, but couldn’t secure the win. Blue blasted a long home run to right field and that put Sullivan on the board. Sullivan fell to DeSoto, 3-1.

The pitching was strong for Sullivan with Koch on the mound. He struck out six Dragons and only gave up six hits.
