Drake Gawer Tosses No-Hitter Against Fox
Sullivan (9-7) kicked off the Farmington Wood Bat Tournament with a bang on Apr. 18. They handed the Class 6 Warriors (9-4) an empty scoresheet and squeezed past them with two runs.
In the top of the seventh, Chase Blue scored on a passed ball to put Sullivan on the board. Nate McReynolds then crossed the dish on a wild pitch and pushed his team ahead 2-0.
The Eagles stomped out Fox’s rally in their final at-bats. Center fielder Seth Valley first caught a flyout, and then pitcher Drake Gawer slammed the door shut.
Gawer struck out the final two batters to complete the shutout and no-hitter. He accomplished the feat with eleven strikeouts on 92 pitches, only giving up a walk. After Gawer’s heater on the mound, Head Coach Ian Whitson awarded him the Most Valuable Player Belt.
Blue picked up a hit and a walk alongside his run.
McReynolds walked to first base before he scored.
Nolan Ulrich led Sullivan with two walks while Brody Gawer logged one.
Landen Doza landed a hit.
Farmington 12, Sullivan 5
Sullivan dropped their second tournament round to the hosting Knights (12-2). They fell behind early against Farmington and eventually lost 12-5.
Lucas Parsons was the first to take the mound and pitched into the top of the third. He fired four strikeouts but allowed three earned runs, hits and walks.
Isaiah “Dirty Dan” Skaggs relieved Parsons and only gave up a hit on the hill.
Wyatt Henricks was next out of the bullpen and surrendered two walks and a hit.
Kaden Smith closed out the game for the Eagles. He hurled two strikeouts while giving up two hits, an earned run and a walk.
D. Gawer led the Eagles with 2 RBIs on his two hits.
Doza and Alex Toews each racked up two hits, an RBI and a run.
Mitchell Garner and B. Gawer both tallied a run and a walk.
Mahlon Foster put up a run and a hit.
Parsons and Smith each took a walk.
Ulrich executed a hit.
