Cross Country Begins Their Run at the Fleet Feet Classic

Sullivan’s cross country team competed last Tuesday, Aug. 29, at the Fleet Feet Classic in Arnold City Park.

The Sullivan girls’ team had 282 points overall, landing them in 10th place. Freshman Mariah Denney led with a 3rd place finish at a time of 12:22.00.

Freshman Eden Lambert finished 51st with a time of 14:16.20, while Senior Breanna Mayberry came in 80th at 15:13.80. Junior Melody Brauninger secured 110th place with a time of 16:50.50, followed by Senior Jade Studdard in 115th at 17:16.00. Senior Maria Schatzl finished 125th at 18:41.20, Senior Peyton Evans took 132nd place with a time of 20:46.90 and Senior Alexandra McLain-Williams came in 134th at 21:24.20.

Overall, there were 138 competitors in the girls’ race.

Cor Jesu (36) won the event. Eureka (84) came in second, St. Louis Blue Knights (110) was third, Lutheran St. Charles (128) was fourth and Seckman (151) fifth.

Farmington (177) in sixth, St. Charles West (232) seventh, John Burroughs (234) eighth, Central Cape Girardeau (269) ninth and Sullivan (282) finished out the top 10.

Boys

The boys’ team finished in 18th place with 467 points overall. Junior Abram Denney was the team’s top performer, claiming 12th place with a time of 10:33.80.

Freshman Ayden Duncan finished 128th with a time of 13:02.71, followed closely by Senior Ian Studdard in 129th place with a time of 13:03.90. Sophomore Elijah Pritchett secured 138th place with a time of 13:26.10 and Sophomore Nolan Studdard finished 143rd with a time of 13:37.40. Freshman Sam Simmington took 150th place with a time of 14:01.00 and Senior Parker Whaley secured 157th place with a time of 14:29.60.

In total, there were 179 runners in the boys’ race.

John Burroughs (86) took first overall. DeSmet Jesuit (99) came in second, Hillsboro (103) was third, St. Charles (124) was fourth and Eureka (130) fifth.

Farmington (153) in sixth, Lutheran St. Charles (179) seventh, North Point (185) eighth, Seckman (188) ninth and Principia (320) took 10th.

Cross country competed at the Sullivan Invitational on Tuesday, Sep. 5. The meet started at 4:30 p.m. at the Campbell-Chapman Sports Complex. Results were unavailable at press time.
