Boys Wrestling Ready For Action-Packed Year
The boys wrestling team, head-coached by Carl Lawrence, is eyeing another strong postseason run and aiming to continue their dominance at districts and state. They will remain in Class 2 District 1 and the season kicks off for them in Washington on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m.
Sullivan boasts 10 returning state qualifiers: Jeremiah Rodriguez, Wieland Schmuke, Colton Brendel, Adam Peregoy, Draysen Nolie, Dominic Ransom, Eli Peregoy, Sam Hecht, Carter Blankenship and Camden Henderson. They also have 2 returning state medalists, which are Brendel and E. Peregoy. Brendel finished in 4th place in the 157 weight class, while E. Peregoy ranked 6th in the 132 class.
Lawrence is excited to lead this group of veterans and newcomers into another action-packed season, saying, “We have promising young freshmen and sophomores pushing upper-class guys for their spots and we will have a few sophomores possibly start. It will be challenging for a freshman to start on our varsity lineup, but they will learn much from our upper-classmen this season and lower-level wrestling events.”
Their home meets this year will be a tri-meet on Thursday, Dec. 14, where they will host Owensville and Potosi. Another home event is the Sullivan Friday Night Take Down Scramble on Jan. 12.
