Boys Soccer Greatly Improve In 2023

The boys’ soccer team finished their year with an 8-16 record, marking a significant improvement from their 3-19 season in 2022. They were selected as the No. 3 seed in Class 2 District 2 and advanced all the way to the semifinals, but fell 9-0 to Clayton.

Head coach Brian Immekus believes that his team greatly improved the most on defense. He claimed that the total number of goals allowed had decreased, explaining, “We had that number cut in half until the wheels fell off a bit in the final two games, but the overall improvement was undeniable.”

He credited starting goalkeeper Alex Toews for making this possible. Sophomore Toews had an incredible rookie season, recording 172 saves while starting 20 games.

The Eagles also elevated their scoring ability to new heights as they doubled their scoring amount from last year with 40 goals in 2023.

Senior Cambrian Koch was a huge contributor to this and had an impressive season with 18 goals, 62 shots, 37 points and an assist.

Immekus praised Koch for his resilience in every game, stating, “He had an awesome offensive season. He was the best pure goal scorer that we’ve had in quite some time, scoring the 4th most goals in school history for a single season. We would have really struggled to score without him and his relentlessness on the field.”

Freshman Luke Herron showed incredible potential in his first year and led the team 2nd in scoring with 7 goals. Zechariah Beagle, Carsen Dudley and Josiah Tanner each had 3. Wyatt Kraus made 2 scores, while Eli Peregoy, Dominic Roberts, Kaden Smith and Dock Thomure each got 1.
