Boys Soccer Falls In Three Games

Sullivan’s boys soccer team played three games this week, coming up short each time.

On Monday and Tuesday, the Eagles played on the road, falling to Pacific and Fredericktown.

They finished out the week on Thursday at home and lost in a 1-0 shootout against Windsor.

Pacific

The Eagles traveled to Pacific on Monday. This was the second time this season Sullivan was shut out by the Indians. Sullivan fell 8-0.

“The personnel changes that we were kind of forced into left just a little inexperience in some key spots,” Head Coach Brian Immekus said about the defeat. “We weren’t able to win the possessions in our defensive ends.”

Sullivan fought hard in the first 20 minutes of play. Once the Indians got their first goal, Sullivan’s young players seemed defeated already. Pacific took advantage of the loss of motivation and scored three more goals in the first half.

“Some of our younger players got a little panicky,” continued Coach Immekus. “We just kind of lost our cool, and we were getting blown out in the second half.”

The Indians scored four more goals in the second half.

The Eagles still shot the ball plenty of times with Trevor Alexander shooting twice. Dillon Freeman, Dock Thomure, Josiah Tanner, Carsen Dudley, and Cambrian Koch each shot the ball once.

Kaden Smith played 75 minutes as the goal keeper. He gave up eight goals but saved the ball 18 times.

Fredericktown

“I was forced to play some young players on defense,” said Coach Immekus. “We just gave up a lot of shots.”

Fredericktown prevailed 9-3.

The Blackcats scored four goals in the first half. Sullivan snapped back with three goals in the second half, but the Blackcats scored five goals in the second half.

Smith was the goalkeeper again and played all 80 minutes. He gave up nine goals, but saved the ball five times.

The Eagles shot the ball 13 times in the game. Zechariah Beagle shot the ball seven times. Thomure shot the ball four times and Koch and Tanner each had one shot.

Windsor

Fifteen minutes before game time, Immekus had to make a tough decision.

His primary goalkeeper was sick and Immekus had to decide who to start.

He went with Cambrian Koch as the goalie for their home game against Windsor.

“We were not going to come in on Thursday night, on senior night, and get embarrassed,” Immekus said.

The Owls had plenty of opportunities to score in the first half, but Sullivan held strong. Koch saved the ball and the Eagles capitalized and Freeman shot a ball over Windsor’s net. The Owls missed on a corner kick and free kick opportunity. Thomure and Beagle had a fast break towards the goal with a little less than eight minutes left in the first half. Alexander and Thomure kept up the pressure towards the goal. Koch looked to be a veteran as the goalkeeper.

“Koch gave us a lift,” Immekus said. “We rallied around him on senior night and that was one of our best performances of the year.

Koch played all 100 minutes and saved the ball twelve times. He only gave up one goal in a shootout.

Beagle led in shots with two, and was followed by Alexander and Thomure with one.
