Boys Soccer Clutches Game-Winner To Beat North County, 2-1

With 40 seconds left in a tied game, Josiah Tanner’s goal sealed the Eagles’ 2-1 victory over the North County Raiders. Carsen Dudley passed to Tanner behind the defense, who then beat the keeper to the ball and placed it into the net with just 40 seconds left.

Boys’ soccer entered this game with a 1-2 record, having come close in their losses, but this time they came in clutch to secure the win.

Junior Zechariah Beagle had secured an early lead for Sullivan with a goal in the first half, but North County managed to tie it up on a free kick.

In the second half, Sullivan made several attempts at the net, but they couldn’t deliver the final punch before Tanner’s goal was made, according to head coach Brian Immekus. “We were pushing hard for the game winner, but kept coming up short with many opportunities going high over the goal.”

Tanner was declared the Man of the Match for shooting in Sullivan’s victory with just 40 seconds left. He collected 2 points, a shot and a goal.

Rookie goalkeeper Alex Toews started in both halves and made 3 saves.

Beagle also contributed 2 points, a shot and a goal. Dock Thomure had a team-high of 3 shots, while Wyatt Kraus had 2. Defenders Zaiden Marler and Russell Polittle each had one. Dudley contributed an assist, a point and 5 corners. Luke Herron made 2 shots and corners.

Immekus is seeing his team improve in terms of ball possession, but he wants them to be more efficient on goal making and correcting mistakes to win more games. He stated, “What needs to change to give us a chance game in and game out is stop committing bad fouls in bad parts of the field and figure out ways to execute in the attacking end that results in more goals.”

The boys’ soccer team played against Fatima at home on Tuesday, Sep. 12. Results were unavailable at press time. They will then compete against Laquey on the Sep. 19 for Youth Recognition Night.
