Boys Soccer And Football Headed To Semifinals
Boys soccer (8-15) advanced to the semifinals after the No. 6 seeded Roosevelt with Carnahan (2-9) forfeited the quarterfinal game against them that was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. in Clayton.
The No. 3 seeded Eagles played against the No. 2 Clayton Greyhounds (15-6) on Monday, Oct. 30 at 4:15 p.m. Stats were not available at press time.
Before the game, head coach Brian Immekus said, “I’m hoping to see our team play 80 minutes of intense, high-pressure soccer. We need to use the underdog position to our advantage as I doubt Clayton is expecting much resistance from us, so hopefully they realize immediately that we won’t be a cake walk.”
Sullivan has had many close games and overtime thrillers, so Immekus hopes that his team can maintain the upper hand in the semifinals and pull an upset.
“[Clayton has] a high powered offense and have scored a lot of goals playing a tough schedule. For us to make it a game, it’ll take a complete team effort defensively and I’m sure [our goalkeeper] Toews will need to step up and make some key saves,” Immekus explained. “We want to keep it close in the first half and give ourselves a chance in the second half to steal a victory. We’ve leaned on our keeper and defense all year, so I have a lot of faith that they’ll be up to the task.”
