Boys Soccer’s Early Lead Slips Away Against Laquey

A day after playing Wright City, Sullivan tied up with their opponents again but fell short in overtime as the Laquey Hornets won 4-3.

Sullivan kicked off the game with two goals in the first seven minutes. With 35:53 on the clock, Beagle passed to Koch who prevented the Hornets from taking over and swiftly chipped in the goal.

Just two minutes later, Luke Herron came through with a clutch free kick to score the Eagles’ second goal. Hornets goalkeeper Michael Franks dove to the right of the ball, trying to block it, but without success.

Koch made Sullivan’s final goal in the second half, even with three Hornets charging at his back. He shot the ball at Franks and it bounced off him, returning right back to Koch, who slotted it in to secure an Eagle lead of 3-0.

However, it wasn’t long before Fatima started to rally back. At 20:18 in the second half, Laquey scored their first goal and quickly added two more to push the game into overtime.

Sullivan’s fire had been extinguished, as the offense began to struggle on maintaining possession and the defense couldn’t catch their breath against the Hornets.

Laquey scored the game-winner and Sullivan was left defeated after two back-to-back losing overtime matches.

Goalkeeper Alex Toews made a clutch 11 saves, including leaping high to block shots and making one-handed grabs to prevent scores.

Cambrian Koch had a team-high of 2 goals, 8 shots and 4 points.

Luke Herron scored Sullivan’s other goal while also recording 5 shots, an assist and 3 points.

Zechariah Beagle and Wyatt Kraus each had 2 shots, while Mason Mertz, Kaden Smith and Josiah Tanner each had 1.

Carsen Dudley executed 2 corners.
