Boys Rebound With Win Over St. Paul Lutheran

Sullivan’s boys soccer team recovered from two losses earlier in the week with a 3-1 win over St. Paul Lutheran on Thursday.

The Eagles had shutout losses against Warrenton and Laquey  on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Warrenton

Sullivan started the week on their home turf against the Warrenton Warriors. Warrenton was coming off a loss against St. Charles West and had a record of 3-3. Warrenton defeated Sullivan 4-0.

Trevor Alexander had a fast break and pushed near the goal, but came up short. With 15 minutes left in the first half, the Warriors scored their second goal of the game.

Josiah Tanner moved on a fast break to the goal after a minute of regular play.

The Warriors missed a corner kick opportunity and Kaden Smith saved a ball from seeing the net. Warrenton’s Miguel Cano came alive on a fast break but the ball went right of the goal.

Dock Thomure rushed the goal on a fast break but was short. With a little over seven minutes, Smith made another save.

Warrenton’s Bryan Guerrero made a fast break to the goal and was stopped by the strong defense of Max Avery. Aidan Lawrence helped Sullivan control the ball with a big kick to send the ball away from their goal. Thomure kept the pressure again with less then two minutes left in the half. Sophomore standout Zechariah Beagle made a fast break to the goal but the time ran out before he could connect.

In the second half, Sullivan’s defense tried to contain the Warriors. Cambrian Koch showed great defense and Beagle almost claimed Sullivan’s first goal with a little over 32 minutes left.

Warrenton secured the win about twenty seconds later when another ball was out of Smith’s reach. Sullivan kept the resilience and Lawrence pushed towards the goal.

After a Warrenton save, Beagle launched a ball over the net. The Warriors finished the game when another ball saw the back of the net with a little less then ten minutes left in the game.

Thomure finished with two shots on the game. Beagle and Alexander each shot the ball once. Smith played all 80 minutes as the goalkeeper and saved the ball four times from the net.

Laquey

The Eagles traveled to Laquey the next night. Sullivan couldn’t connect on a goal and were defeated 7-0. The Hornets netted two goals in the first half and secured the win with five more goals in the second half.

Tanner, Eli Pergoy, Koch, and Beagle each shot the ball once. Wyatt Kraus and Thomure each shot the ball twice.

Smith played all 80 minutes as goalie and saved the ball fourteen times.

St. Paul Lutheran

The Eagles soared in their last game of the week. The last time Sullivan was up at the half at home, the Eagles won. This week was no exception. The Eagles had the lead by one in the first half. Sullivan scored another goal before the Giants answered back. The Eagles secured the win with another goal and the final score was 3-1.

In the first half, Sullivan’s defense was strong when Caleb Kwok and Alexander worked together to stop the ball. The teamwork continued when Peregoy, Thomure, and Alexander all worked together to keep the pressure.

Thomure and Beagle almost scored on a good run. Alexander almost scored a goal too  and Sullivan was strong from the start. They kept the good teamwork and pressure up with Thomure almost making goals. Smith saved the ball from the net and Beagle shot a ball over the net.

The Giants weren’t performing as well as Sullivan but saved the ball a couple time from the net with a little over seventeen minutes left. The Eagles almost scored on a corner kick twice before Cambrian Koch scored his very first goal with about a minute left. Sullivan led the Giants by one to end the first half.

In the second half, was when the Giants scored their only score. The Eagles had another player score his first goal. Eli Peregoy sailed a ball into the net with 23 minutes left in the game. Beagle got another fast break but came up short. Smith continued a spectacular performance and saved the ball with a little less then 19 minutes left.

St. Paul Lutheran finally scored their first goal of the game on a penalty kick with a little over 18 minutes left. Kraus shined on the defense and Larwrence delivered on the defense. Thomure and Peregoy performed well on the defense and on the offense of the ball. Thomure scored his second goal of the year with a little over two minutes left in the game.

Koch, Peregoy, and Thomure netted the three goals for Sullivan.
