Boys Basketball Falls 40-29 To Dutchmen
Sullivan’s boys’ basketball team (4-22) made a first-round exit in districts after falling 40-29 to the third-seeded Owensville Dutchmen (10-15) on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in St. James.
With injuries and roster changes forcing younger players onto the court, head coach Dino McKinney described it as a “tough season” for the Eagles. He explained that “a lot of young players [are] thrust into the fire early in their high school careers. Instead of getting their feet wet on the JV level first, they had to make a big jump against bigger, stronger, [and] faster players. [I am] looking forward to see[ing] if this drives them to work hard this off-season to be ready for next year. Winning or losing is often decided in the seven-and-a-half months before [the] next season starts.”
The first time these two conference teams clashed was on Feb. 20; the Dutchmen beat Sullivan 60-42.
Junior guard Chris Glaser, and sophomore guard Malady tied for Sullivan’s highest scorers with 8 points. Glaser collected four rebounds and two assists, while Malady got an assist and a team-high five rebounds.
Junior guard Seth Valley hooped in 6 points, going 3-6 on field goals. He also grabbed four rebounds and two assists.
Senior forward Max Avery racked up 4 points with a 2-3 field goal ratio, three rebounds and a steal.
Freshman guard Landen Doza made a 3-pointer and a rebound.
Senior guard Matthew Mallory had an assist.
The Eagles shot 12-31 from the field, completing 7-15 of their two-pointers, 5-16 three-pointers and 0-3 free throws. They tallied 17 rebounds, six assists and a steal.
