Boys Basketball Beats St. Clair 43-39 In Overtime Rivalry Shootout

With 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter against St. Clair (5-13), the Eagles (3-17) were trailing 34-32 and needed a miracle to beat their biggest rival. Sullivan guard Landen Doza caught a throw from his teammate Seth Valley and raced through the key with a Bulldog chasing him from behind and one blocking his way in front of the net.

During this season, the Eagles had fallen short in close moments like this, and Doza was ready to end the trend. He blocked out the noise of the St. Clair Pep Club, who were in court warming spirits, and soared high to land the ball into the basket, sending the game into overtime. Sullivan stomped out the Bulldogs in the final four minutes with a 43-39 victory.

Eagles head coach Dino McKinney is proud of his boys for “battling all the way” and pulling off the big conference win, saying, “They show up every day; they keep working. The record is not what we wanted going into it, but I can’t fault their effort. They get there every day, so seeing them get a little reward for all their hard work tonight was good.”

Chris Glaser scored a team-high 24 points, recorded three steals, grabbed three rebounds and went 4-5 on free throws.

Landen Doza clutched 12 points, five rebounds and two steals. He executed 5-7 of his field goals.

Seth Valley racked up five rebounds, four assists, two steals and 2 points.

Peyton Malady pulled off five rebounds, scored 2 points and tallied two assists.

Max Avery contributed 3 points and three rebounds.

Mitchell Garner collected two assists.

Matthew Mallory had a steal.

Sullivan tallied 43 points, 21 rebounds, eight assists and eight steals. They went 15-40 on field goals and 5-9 on free throws.
