Baseball Shakes Off Rust With Two Jamboree Wins

Sullivan hosted a baseball jamboree at home on Tuesday, Mar. 12, that featured four-inning scrimmages that allowed them to shake the rust off before the Four Rivers Conference tournament.

After the Eagles came alive in their first game against Orchard Farm with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning, there was no turning back, as they won 7-3. In their second match, they edged out Wright City for a 1-0 victory.

Sullivan’s starting pitchers and bullpen got to throw for an inning.

Orchard Farm

Drake Gawer started on the mound with a hat trick at the top of the first. Sullivan’s dugout waved their caps as he delivered his third strikeout in a row.

Once Orchard Farm went to bat, they drew up an early 2-0 lead. Cambrian Koch was Sullivan’s pitcher during this inning, executing two strikeouts but giving up two hits, two earned runs and a walk.

After going scoreless on offense again, Sullivan returned to the outfield, eager to take back the game with Alex Toews on the mound. Second baseman Kaden Smith and shortstop Nolan Ulrich slung the ball to first baseman Dylan Parker for two consecutive groundouts. Ulrich came to the rescue again by catching a pop-out to send it into the bottom of the 3rd.

The Eagles would then fire on all cylinders at bat, stringing up seven runs in a single inning. Koch and Ulrich got things rolling after seizing Sullivan’s first two runs on Chase Blue’s double. Gawer blasted a ground ball that allowed Blue to take a 3-2 lead. Pinch runners Grant Halmick and Smith added two Sullivan scores on Mitchell Garner’s double. Raiden Redd went to bat and shot off a line drive that allowed Garner to slide home for Sullivan’s sixth point. Landen Doza helped Redd get the Eagles’ final run by grounding into a fielder’s choice.

Redd was the last to pitch and led the infield to shut down Orchard Farm on their final offensive chance, as they could only score one run. He delivered a strikeout while only allowing a walk.

For their RBI doubles, the coaches selected Redd and Blue as the tag-team champs in this game.

Wright City

Blue was the only scorer in Sullivan’s single-run victory against the Wildcats. He seized the opportunity to make it home after Gawer launched a line drive at the top of the first. Gawer won the game’s Most Valuable Player belt with his RBI single.

When Sullivan’s defense came onto the field in the bottom of the first, Nate McReynolds threw two strikeouts and gave up one hit.

In the next inning, Halmick recorded two strikeouts; after that, Lucas Parsons had one.

Blue was the last to pitch and gave up a hit but prevented the Wildcats from tying it.
