Area Football Capsules - Week Eleven
As high school football entered its eleventh week, teams fought to keep their postseasons alive in the district semifinal rounds. The winners punched their tickets to the championship with their eyes on the title.
Friday, Nov. 8
Borgia head coach Dale Gildehaus capped off his 38-year career on Friday night. He had won 304 games with the Knights, leading them to a state championship in 1993. In his final game as coach, the top-seeded Knights fell 42-2 to No. 4 Lift for Life.
Gateway edged past No. 4 Union by a score of 14-12 in the Class 4 District 2 Semifinal. The Jaguars will look to defend their top seed against Pacific in the championship.
St. James finished their season in the Class 3 District 5 Semifinal. The fifth-seeded Tigers fell 42-20 to No. 1 Strafford on the road.
Fourth-ranked Washington dethroned Eureka from their top seed on Friday. They upset the Wildcats 14-13 to advance to the Class 5 District 2 Championship.
Saturday, Nov. 9
Third-seeded St. Clair ended their season in the Class 3 District 2 Semifinal last Saturday. Second-ranked John Burroughs beat the Bulldogs 35-9.
Hermann is the last remaining Four Rivers Conference team in district play. They defended their top seed in Class 2 District 2 with a 26-19 win over No. 3 St. Pius X (Festus).
