14U: The Hitting Spot Holds Off Jerry’s TV For A 10-8 Victory
Jerry’s TV’s late four-run surge in their final drive was not enough to overcome The Hitting Spot, who squeezed by with the 10-8 victory on Monday, June 3. This game marked the fourth time the two 14U teams clashed this season. They are now tied 2-2 with one another.
Jerry’s TV made waves at the top of the first with three scores. Garrett W. sacrificed himself on a ground out to signal Carter P. home. Barrett S. followed up by powering a fly ball that surged Benjamin T. and Trenton C. for two more runs.
The Hitting Spot refused to cut the cord. Leadoff batter Liam H. capitalized on an error to reel in their first score. Kayden P. took risks by stealing home, and Carson R. cashed in on an error.
With no more room left on the diamond, Aldo A. and Keondre B. were forced to carve out two more scores to give The Hitting Spot a 5-3 lead.
They continued to hit on all cylinders at the bottom of the second. Keondre B. smoked a fly ball to left field, firing Aldo A. and Kayden P. home. Unk F. then homered a ground ball for Keondre B. to grab The Hitting Spot’s eighth score.
Jerry’s TV drew a spark when up to bat again to fuze a four-score deficit. Barrett S. channeled a ground ball that allowed Benjamin T. to rerun to home again.
The Hitting Spot pushed themselves ahead 10-4 after loading up the bases, handing James M. and Owen L. the chance to make their final two scores.
Down by six runs in the top of the 4th, Jerry’s TV tuned in for their final showing for one last chance to turn the dial. Dean V. plugged a grounder that charged Reed N. and Nathan V. for two runs. Then, as Carter P.’s fly ball was live in the air, Kasey S. surfed his way home. After Carter P. made the last score on a wild pitch, a final strikeout shut off Jerry’s TV’s comeback hopes.
