Stroll on the other hand, barely managed to score points, apart from a few skirmishes that made him the focus of controversy to the point where his position in the team was questioned. His father's influence in his career has been a subject of discussion, with figures like Jordan questioning his continued presence as a racing driver.

Fast forward to 2024 and one may notice Alonso's start to the campaign with impressive finishes of P9 and P5 in Bahrain and Jeddah, while Stroll's Bahrain season-opener points finish in P10 was followed by a crash in Saudi Arabia.

Highlighting Lance's inconsistency in performance, Jordan spoke on the Formula For Success podcast:

“Lance has had some amazingly good races.

“Baku comes to mind and various other places, but it’s too seldom, it’s not often enough.

“Lance Stroll, he doesn’t qualify well enough, maybe creeps into the top 10 If he’s lucky, but Alonso was always quicker than him.”

As a result, Jordan queries his father's perspective on Lance amidst the team's attraction of exceptional talent worldwide. He added:

“So, I’m at a confusion. How does Lawrence Stroll go out and get the best technical people worldwide and make his team into a consistent race-winning team?

“Either Lance has to move up a scale and really get himself together and continually finish on the podium, and then people will totally believe in what he’s able to do, but at the moment, his results are not good enough. And I think he’s going to have to think about this once and for all.”

“One thing that surprised me straight away the first day in Fiorano in October of ’23.

“He went out for the first time in his life with a Formula 1 car and like the third lap that he did at Fiorano – a new track, new car, new situation – he was already up to speed. So that is talent."

Bearman's ability to remain composed under pressure was also a subject of praise. Togninalli noted:

“He was a guy, 18-years-old and you would never expect that straight away he was up to speed. The other aspect to me that is paying off quite a bit is he is very calm, he’s very focused, he’s not panicking.

“We are very proud and very happy because he jumped into the car in FP3 in Saudi and was up to speed straightaway."

Jock Clear, Ferrari’s Driver Academy boss, also weighed in on Bearman's debut, expressing his astonishment at the young driver's performance. Clear stated on the F1 Nation podcast: 

“I’ve often said about Oliver, he will get better and better the closer he gets to F1, because F1 recognises real intelligence.

“Drivers that can think their way around situations really, really shine in F1. Ollie is super sharp, super clever, and I think that's what he's demonstrated this week.

“We know he's quick. We've seen him in our car. We know that he can drive a car fast. But the way he's approached the weekend, the way he approached the race, step by step – you've got to get off the grid and you've got to get alongside some fairly feisty opposition who are going to get their elbows out. He did that cleanly.

"We said if he comes around the first lap with all four wheels still on, we'll be really happy. He did that. He was still in P11, so he held his position off the grid, and from then on he just grew into the race."

Clear continued to laud Bearman's adaptability and learning curve during the race, stating: 

“You have to recognise every lap of the race was another 10% experience for Ollie in this car, so by the time he'd done half the race, he’d doubled his experience in this car. He was learning super fast, but he never overstretched himself. I think that's the thing I'm most proud of from him.”

Despite the Formula 1 community bowing down to the F1 debutant for his amazing P7 finish at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Oliver Bearman has been quite self-critical of his performance, having watched the Grand Prix five times already to identify errors that could have otherwise helped him gain positions during the race.

Speaking to The Times in an interview, he said:

"The race finished about 10pm, you have about 1½ hours of media and then you’re into a debrief with the team.

"By the time I got back to the hotel, it was 1am, and by the time I got to sleep it was half two, because I had to watch the race. We had a flight at 11am, so I slept for five hours, which didn’t help because I needed some recovery. But I had to watch the race. I’ve watched it maybe five times now."

After a detailed analysis of his performance, Bearman concluded that he couldn't of asked for more considering the "circumstances". He added:

"The first time I was like, ‘Ah, I missed a bit of lap time there, I should have overtaken there.'

"But now I’m really happy with what I achieved. I don’t think I could have asked much more of myself, considering the circumstances.”

While the frontrunners competing against Liberty Media for the acquisition of Dorna remain undisclosed, recent reports from Spain's Expansion newspaper suggest that Apple, Disney, and Netflix have shown interest in the deal. However, as of Saturday, this interest remained unconfirmed. Bridgepoint chose not to provide any comments, and Liberty Media did not respond to requests for comments, as per the report.

“I think that is interesting always when you have a big manufacturer like that entering the sport. I think there is an opportunity for me.

“So that is the priority, but if for some reason if not, I think the drivers market is pretty wide open for next year.”

Age, for Bottas, appears to be merely a number, with the driver drawing inspiration from Fernando Alonso's ongoing success in the sport. 

“I don’t have a number, in terms of years, because I don’t see my time in F1 ending any time soon.

“So, I am now 34, and Fernando Alonso is 65 (laughs), so he is a pretty good reference that you can still perform.”

The start of the 2024 season has not been kind to Sauber, with its drivers struggling in the early races. Yet, Bottas remains hopeful, attributing some of the team's challenges to factors beyond their control and anticipating a boost from planned upgrades to the Sauber C44. Bottas concluded:

“In Saudi, I should have been in Q2 without the traffic in qualifying. So, I think we haven’t seen where we are [in the pecking order]. Melbourne is going to be better.

“We already have some upgrades coming to this weekend and the next race in Japan. So, let’s see, because a small improvement can really get you closer to the top 10.”

"It has some complications which we’ve seen in the past. We’ve seen great drivers that don’t survive six months or a year. It’s a unique team. I’m in no hurry. I want to see how it goes. With Red Bull, I think it will be a very fast conversation. It will take us five minutes to say what we want to do.

"We cannot take anything away from him [Max Verstappen]. He’s at one with the car. I think Max is at the stage of his career where he has a car that he is 100% comfortable with."

F1: When And How To Watch The Australian Grand Prix

The Australian Grand Prix race week is upon us with the teams and drivers already arriving in Melbourne. 

Going into the third round of the 2024 season, Max Verstappen will be looking to continue his winning streak after securing both victories in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Verstappen's Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, has been closely following the Dutch driver with second-place finishes in both of the opening races. 

Ferrari reserve driver Ollie Bearman replaced Carlos Sainz in Saudi Arabia after requiring surgery for appendicitis. It is currently not clear as to whether the Spanish driver will be able to drive this weekend or if Bearman will stand in once again.

The 2023 Australian Grand Prix was chaotic from start to finish with three red flags and dramatic race re-starts. Verstappen took the win in 2023 followed by Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso who crossed the line in second and third, respectively.

Sainz's approach to his final season is being observed as the Spaniard has disclosed his intention to prioritize his performance to enhance his prospects of securing a seat for the following year when Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton takes over his seat.

Not only that, Sainz's relationship with Leclerc has raised questions, particularly after their close racing encounter in Bahrain, where he executed a daring move up the inside of Leclerc at turn one on Lap 11. This maneuver initiated a spirited duel between the two drivers through the opening corners, ultimately resulting in Sainz securing third place behind both Red Bulls.

However, Leclerc clarified to the media Ferrari comes above everything else for both drivers. He said:

"We are always trying to fight on the limit, but obviously keeping in mind that Ferrari comes first and we cannot take unnecessary risks.

"From my side, I wasn't really in a position to be fighting properly as we had quite a few issues to manage, but at the end [of the day], it is a balance and sometimes we might go a bit more over the limit and be a bit too aggressive."

"We'll then have a discussion and recentre it, and that is what we have done in the years we have been competing together, but I don't remember any time where it went as far as having a problem between us.

The young driver's struggle from the race day became evident the following day when his F2 colleagues noted his stiffness. Given that he endured forces of up to 5G for approximately 90 minutes and completed 50 laps on one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar, the impact on the F1 debutant would have been easily noticeable.

Speaking about the beating his body too during the race, he told the The Times:

Most of the pain was from my lower back. The neck is a given, but Jeddah is one of the most difficult tracks. Even the straights, they twist quite a bit, which doesn’t look much, but when you repeat it 50 times, there’s no rest.

"F1 cars are very tight and not built for comfort. Everything was very last minute. When I made the seat, I didn’t think I’d be having to use it."

Revealing the difference in comfort between an F1 and an F2 car, Bearman added:

"We don’t have as much downforce or G-force in F2, so the strain is much less. But we don’t have power steering in F2, so the steering work is super-heavy. When I’ve finished an F2 race, my arms are usually tired, but apart from that I’m fine. In F1, the steering is very light, but it’s everything else. You’re just getting thrown around. Muscles you don’t feel like you’re engaging, they’re aching the next day.

"It’s exhausting; you lose a lot of water, I couldn’t believe how sweaty I was. It was a big challenge. But I really enjoyed it."

Feeling confident that the plan to upgrade the facility would secure its position on the calendar, circuit director Josep Lluis Santamaria told Motorsport.com Italy:

“I don’t see why two Formula 1 Grands Prix cannot coexist in Spain in the future, there are three in the United States and two in Italy, and there can be two here as well.

“We are sportsmen and, of course, we like competition, so you can’t hide the fact that when you compete you have stimuli. But we have always said that the work we are completing started much earlier, more than two years ago, and was the result of agreements made with F1.”

The official statement from the circuit management stated the goal of the infrastructure overhaul. It read:

Thus, the team boss revealed his intent to retain the 42-year-old driver in the outfit for the future.

Alonso's skill in keeping Russell behind during the race in Jeddah was also commended by Krack, highlighting his effective strategy of preventing the Mercedes driver from utilizing DRS for numerous laps. He added:

“It was quite strong.

“We knew George was behind, he had good speed, and we did not want to let him into the DRS. So it was all the time between 1.5 and 1.0 seconds in between them.

“And then it is always how much do I manage, and how much do I push to get to the end? But I think he managed it like probably nobody else can. I don't know where he got the gaps from. In my opinion he was always on top of the situation.”

Highlighting his "old fox" quality when Alonso communicated to his team about the strategy without letting rival teams know, Krack added:

“He asked for the Plan B, basically. ‘Is there a Plan B?’

“Fernando is always teasing you, you have to be careful if he's really honest about it, because he knows all the strategies before, he knows where all the field is. And sometimes he maybe does it even on purpose, because he knows the competitors are listening. So he's an old fox.

“But he always wakes us up. As soon as you think for one lap you can read it, there comes a radio call, and he says, ‘What about Plan B?’, like Fernando always does. So we then had a look at the Plan B, but you will not finish where you finish with Plan B.”

Thus, considering what Alonso brings to the table, Aston Martin is keen on keeping him for 2025 and maybe even beyond, but only after he decides to continue racing in F1. Krack explained:

“It's not a secret that he first of all wants to decide for himself what he wants to do.

“And I think it's also not a secret that I keep saying that we want to continue working with Fernando.

“And I also said that the most important thing is that we give him a quick car. So that he believes in this project, and that he believes in this team, and everything else we will have to discuss over the weeks to come.

“Now, it is clear that a driver of that calibre is attractive for everybody, but we will try to keep him.”

Russell also added that he wasn't concerned about his future teammate as his sole focus remains to perform and lead the team next season. He added:

“It's gonna be an interesting few months to see what happens.

“But from my side, I've been team mates with arguably the greatest driver of all time for the past two years, and I've got no concerns at all who lines up alongside me. I want to be tested against the very best and I feel that's what I've had the last two years.

“Whether it’s an experienced driver or a young driver. I feel that personally, I'm in a great position to help push the team forward and go into this next chapter.”

Since Hamilton's Ferrari announcement last month, several drivers have been linked to a future Mercedes move, such as Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz, Alex Albon, and even Red Bull driver Max Verstappen!

"I think we've had eight winners in nine seasons, pretty much every season has come down to the last race of the season.

"And if you look at last year alone in London, you had three drivers and three teams that could still win the championship when we get to there, but it's very deliberately done. We know that fans love competitiveness, when competitiveness starts to go, fanbase starts to disappear.

"So we are very fixated on keeping competitive nature high. And I know I made a bit of a bet recently, which you might have seen where I talked about a Max Verstappen guarantee about how he will definitely win.

"And a lot of people at the time said I was being unreasonable. But here we are two for two. And it looks like now the question is can he win all 24? We do not want to be that sport."

Since its establishment in 2014, Formula E has experienced a significant rise in competitiveness, leading to its recognition as the motorsport with the fourth-largest fan base.
