Virginia L. Flanagin, 78, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.

Virginia Lee was born in Gerald, MO on April 2, 1944 to George Henry and Ida L. (Williams) Renick. She attended grade school at Spring Bluff R-15 and graduated from Sullivan High School, class of 1962. On October 12, 1963, Virginia was united in marriage to George O. Flanagin and they were blessed with two daughters, Patricia and Pamela.

At the age of 16, Virginia began her working career at the Dairy Castle in Sullivan. She was also employed as a waitress at Tri County and I-44 Truck Stops, as she saved money in preparation for her upcoming wedding. Later, she was employed at the Mid West Shoe Factory in Sullivan. She babysat her two nephews and three grandsons on and off for several years. Virginia was employed as a cook for Sullivan Middle School for 13 years, retiring in 2009.

Virginia enjoyed gardening and sewing. She made the dress she wore on her first date with her husband, George, as well as her own wedding dress. She was best known for her Barbie clothes.

Virginia loved traveling and went to the following locations: Hawaii, California, Michigan, Alaska, Australia, Portugal, and Spain. Since George was in the Air Force during the beginning years of their marriage, she traveled and lived in Louisiana and Alabama. More than anything, Virginia loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life.

Virginia is survived by her husband, George Flanagin of Sullivan, MO; two daughters, Patricia Lawrence and husband Steve of Sullivan, MO and Pamela Richards of Sullivan, MO; six grandchildren: Nathan Shelton of Strain Japan, MO, Phil Richards and wife Amelia of Knob Noster, MO, Michael Richards of Lake Ozarks, MO, Justin Richards of Titusville, Florida, Bryar Bequette and wife Brooke of Foristell, MO, and Drake Bequette and wife Makayla of Sullivan, MO; two step- grandchildren, Casey Kutrip and husband Mark of Dittmer, MO and Courtney Williams and husband Seth of Easton, PA; five great-grandchildren: Naomi, Madison, Gavin, Presley, and Scarlett; five step-great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Ellie, Clara, Josslyn, and Cecelia; one brother-in-law, Dennis Flanagin and wife Renee of Sullivan, MO; special nephews, Cory Flanagin of Seattle, WA and Kyle Flanagin of Richmond Heights, MO; other nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ida Renick; son-in-law, Tom Richards; one brother, Russell Renick; parents-in-law Wilbur and Evelyn Flanagin; two brothers-in-law, Irvin and David Flanagin; and two sisters-in-law, Loretta and Elaine Flanagin.

A Memorial Service was 12 p.m., Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, prior to the service at Eaton Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Virginia’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
