Sylvia A. Condon, 84, of Bourbon, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Stonebridge Senior Living in Herman, MO.

Sylvia Ann Troutt was born April 17, 1937 in Bourbon, MO, to David Arthur and Vera Clare (nee Bohnenkamp) Troutt. Nine years later, their family was complete with the addition of Sylvia’s sister, Vera Sue, who became her lifelong close friend and companion. Sylvia learned from her parents the beautiful gospel of Jesus Christ. Early in life, she embraced the call to turn from living for herself to serving Him, which she faithfully persevered in doing; on many “mountaintops” and through many “valleys”. Sylvia’s life is truly a testimony of her Savior’s own faithfulness, mercy and grace. Sylvia and her beloved husband, Ed, had resided in Bourbon for nearly 25 years.

Elementary and high school years for Sylvia were filled with many hours of practicing and performing clarinet and piano music, leading Sullivan High School’s Marching Band as Majorette, and preparing, serving and helping clean up home cooked meals at her parents’ restaurant in “Downtown Sullivan”.

Sylvia met and married the love of her life, John Edward Condon, while pursuing and receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Sylvia and Ed joined in holy matrimony on June 12, 1960 at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan, MO. They soon moved to Kansas City, where Sylvia worked as a Nurse, and gave birth to Paul; and then Terry; growing their family to a foursome! Some years later, Ferguson, MO, became their home, and would see the young family through their “growing up” years. Sylvia also ministered to many through her nursing care of infants on the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Sylvia and Ed loved to travel, and journeyed through many adventurous trips across the U.S., sharing the lovely treasures of America’s rich landscapes and historical points of interest with Paul and Terry, and instilling in them a vast appreciation for our breath-taking country founded by and on God’s grace.

Family was precious to Sylvia, and even upon encountering and struggling through the deep chasm of surrendering Paul into the arms of Jesus at the very early age of 27, she purposed to continue loving well all those still with her on this earth.

Some years before retiring, Sylvia and Ed moved to the family farm built by her grandfather, made extensive renovations, and enjoyed their country home immensely.

Soon a heartwarming celebration at St. Louis Children’s Hospital commemorated Sylvia’s many years of service there, and sent her and Ed to merrily set forth roots into the depths of the rich soil of their Bourbon country home.

Surely Sylvia and Ed’s favorite of all was to carefully “manicure” the expansive grounds into a pastoral haven, and prepare the charming farmhouse to graciously welcome family and friends for a delicious home cooked and elegantly served dinner of roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and tomatoes from “grandma’s garden”, made from scratch rolls and chocolate cake with ice cream. Usually a pleasant stroll amidst the melodic songs of many beautiful birds, and often with cattle lowing in the distant fields happily followed, and many times a rousing contest of canasta and/or uno, and a sing along to Sylvia’s grand piano playing brought a delightful day to a sweetly remembered close. Garden tours of Sylvia’s many flowers, vegetables, and fruits were another fun excursion many visitors eagerly anticipated, and about which, were never disappointed.

Many sunny days found Sue, and/or Sylvia’s grandchildren, buckets in hand and sunhats atop heads, joining in the fun of strawberry picking as the farm cats, Sammie and Rocky, lounged nearby in the shade. Parting gifts became those juicy sweet strawberries, or maybe other garden offerings; such as peppers, tomatoes, lettuce or about any delicious vegetable one can imagine!

Treks to the ponds or through the woods scattered with dragonflies, fresh air, and the excitement of what lay just ahead brought countless memories to last. What a joy to look forward to sharing such lovely stories with Sylvia’s great grandchildren!

Sylvia often expressed her wonder in the Lord’s gift of love, and of His unfathomable graciousness in blessing all of us who have become His children through faith in Jesus Christ, with the treasure of loving one another. Sylvia will always be dearly remembered by those she loved, and by those who loved her in return.

Sylvia is survived by her beloved daughter, Teresa Lynne and husband, Loy Russell Myers, of O’Fallon, MO; four beloved grandchildren: Jessica Lynne and Joseph DeSapio of Cottleville, MO, Stephen Paul Myers of Florissant, MO, Christine Noelle and Jacob Eugene Bornhop of Arvada, CO, and Elissa Hope Myers of Twin Lakes, CO; two beloved great-grandchildren: Emma Leigh and Geraint Russell DeSapio, both of Cottleville, MO; beloved sister, Vera Sue and James Harvey Shoulders of Union, MO; beloved niece, Bonnie and Michael Martin of Washington, MO; beloved nephew, Jimmy and Cassandra Shoulders of St. Charles, MO; many beloved cousins; dear friends: Steve and Marla Olish of Chesterfield, MO, Margaret Aston of St. Louis, MO, Michael and Shelley Rae Jannings of Bourbon, MO, Rob and Robin Hajicek of Catawissa, MO; and many , many more loved ones and friends.
