Robert W. Thomason, 72, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away peacefully at Meramec Nursing Center on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

Robert Wynn Thomason was born in Orange County, Texas, on March 10, 1950, to James Edward Thomason and Mary Lee Evans. He grew up and attended school in Winona, MO. Robert enlisted into the United States Marine Corps where he honorably served our country during the Vietnam war.

After his honorable discharge, Robert went to work for the Hershey’s Chocolate Factory in Granite City, Illinois. He was blessed with six children: Robert, James, Rebecca, Lori, Frank, and Jennifer. Robert moved his family to Leasburg, Missouri where he continued to raise his children. He went to work in various places in the area, including O’Reilly’s and NAPA Auto Parts.

In his younger years, Robert loved to hunt and fish, and as he got older, he enjoyed reading mystery novels and watching westerns. John Wayne was his idol. Robert always enjoyed spending time with his family, getting together for barbeques, and listening to country music. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren. In his later years, Robert spent time with his friends at the Sullivan Community Center, playing Bingo and Canasta. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Robert is survived by five of his children: James Thomason of Fort Worth, TX, Rebecca Harmon and husband Steven of Sullivan, MO, Lori Cozart and husband Stephen of Lake St. Louis, MO, Frank Thomason and wife Shannon of Fort Worth, TX and Jennifer Orton of Leasburg, MO; nine grandchildren: Tice, Journey, and Myranda Thomason, Austin Cencelewski, Dylan Harmon, Rachel, Dakota and Jeremiah Orton, and Oliver Cozart; four great-grandchildren: Myla, Esme, Hazel Grace and Megan Le’Mae; nieces and nephews: Janice, Jill, Shawn and Scott Thomason; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Thomason Jr.; two grandchildren, Megan Cencelewski and Jordon Orton; his parents; his step-father, Frank Bustler; and two brothers, John and Douglas Thomason.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Interment will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, with full military honors.

Visitation will be 9 – 11 a.m., Wednesday, prior to the service at Eaton Funeral Home.
