Robert ‘Bob’ Phillips
Robert “Bob” Phillips, 97, of St. Clair, passed away, Thursday, June 8, 2023 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in St. James, MO.
On December 26, 1925, Bob was born to the union of Paiton “Pate” Phillips and Mary (Banderman) in Morrellton, Missouri (Anaconda Community).
He proudly served his country during WW II in the United States Navy.
Bob was united in marriage to Frances (Benson) on May 25, 1944 in St. Clair.
He worked for International Shoe Company and St. Clair Die-Casting Company.
Bob was a proud member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge 575 and the VFW all of St. Clair. He was also a member of the St. Clair Southern Baptist Church.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting, rabbit trapping and fishing especially for catfish. In his younger years, Bob could be found playing 18 holes of golf or bowling a high score at the lanes. Bob lived a simple life but he owed nobody a dime. His hard work and dedication to supporting himself and his family did not go unnoticed. Most of all Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Pate and Mary Phillips; one brother, Ted Phillips; three sisters, Viola Owens, Gladys Carver and Lola Rock; his wife, Frances Phillips; son-in-law, Richard Mallett.
He is survived by his daughter, Dianna Mallet Queen and husband Mick of Sullivan; two brothers, Billy Phillips of California and John Phillips of North Carolina; one sister, Dorothy Osborn of St. Clair; grandson, Chance Mallett and wife Becky of O’Fallon; two great-grandsons, Kyle & Jacob Mallett of O’Fallon’ nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
A visitation was held, Monday, June 12, 2023 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Midlawn Funeral Home in Union. A Funeral service followed at 12 p.m. along with interment at Midlawn Memorial Gardens in Union.
