Nicholas Joseph Nicolai, known affectionately as "Nick," passed away peacefully on July 30, 2023, in Sullivan, MO. Born on October 5, 1957, in St. Louis, MO, he lived a life full of kindness, friendship, and intellectual curiosity. He was a loving and dedicated family man, a respected healthcare professional, an accomplished guitarist, and an avid traveler.

Nick completed his education with an Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy. He devoted 44 years of his life to the healthcare profession, a testament to his dedication and compassion. He spent the majority of his career in the St. Louis area, working diligently within the Barnes Jewish Hospital network and the SSM Hospital network. His work impacted countless lives, and he was a valued colleague and friend to many in his professional circles.

His passion for music was evident in his skills as a guitarist. Nick's love for music was not confined to the strings of his guitar, as he also had an extensive music collection that spanned various genres. His love for travel took him to many places, where he enjoyed immersing himself in different cultures and experiences. He cherished his time with friends and co-workers, often creating lasting memories and forming close bonds that transcended his professional life.

Nick was a loving grandfather who took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren. His kind, friendly, and intelligent nature made him a cherished figure in their lives. His legacy of love, kindness, and wisdom will live on in their hearts.

Nick was a man of many virtues. He was kind, always extending a helping hand to those in need. He was friendly, known for his warm smile and welcoming demeanor. He was intelligent, always eager to learn and share his knowledge with others. He was a beacon of positivity, lighting up every room he entered.

Nick spent the last 10 months of his life battling pancreatic cancer.  However, in his struggle he was not alone, he had found his soulmate. Genlie. who was constantly by his side.  Although they were only married in September of 2022, Nick was blessed to have many more days than expected.  Most importantly he surrendered his life to Christ and sought to restore relationships with his family.  Nick entered eternity with his loving wife and family at his side.

Nick's passing is a significant loss to all who knew him. He will be remembered for his passion for his work, his love for music and travel, and his kind, friendly, and intelligent nature.

Nick is survived by his devoted wife, Genlie; a son, Justin Nicolai; a daughter, Kathryn Nicolai. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Brent Rall and his wife Kelly, Angie Warner and her husband Dave, Lindsay McAlexander and her husband Michael. Nick was a wonderful grandfather to Justin, Cru, Zoe, and Gage. He was a beloved brother to James Nicolai, Albert Nicolai and his wife Tracie, Tom Nicolai, and Pat Williams.

He was preceded in death by his dear sisters Laurie Nicolai and Sandra Nicolai.

A Remembrance Memorial Service will be held at 12 PM, Saturday August 5, 2023 at Warrenton Christian Church with Pastor John Blackmore officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Nicholas or the American Cancer Society.
