Mona E. Ficke, 75, of Sullivan, Missouri passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Mercy Hospital – Washington, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on January 2, 1948, in Wardell, Missouri, Mona grew up in the areas of Bourbon and Sullivan, where she also received her education. Her life was rich with love and dedication, hallmarked by her union to Larry Ficke on February 7, 1965, during her high school years. Together, they were blessed with three sons: Larry, Keith, and Billy, and Mona devoted herself to raising their family in Sullivan with unwavering commitment and care.

While her children were young, Mona embraced the role of a housewife and homemaker, pouring her heart into nurturing her family. As her sons grew and ventured into school, she began working various local jobs, eventually embarking on a fulfilling 30-year career at Rexam in Union, Missouri. She retired in 2012, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. Her husband, Larry, sadly passed in 1997, but Mona continued to embody the strength and love that had always defined their partnership.

Mona's zest for life was evident in her love for travel and adventure. She cherished family trips, with many camping excursions, and held fond memories of visiting Yellowstone and Universal Studios, which stood out as favorite destinations. Her spirit of exploration was matched by her love for her extended family, whom she frequently hosted and visited, ensuring that the bonds of kinship remained strong across distances.

An avid yardsaler, Mona had a keen eye for treasures and a skilled hand in crafts. She took great pleasure in quilt making and embroidery, pastimes that not only brought her joy but also created heirlooms cherished by those who knew her. Her commitment to her community was unwavering, as demonstrated by her faithful volunteer work at the Bourbon Senior Center. Mona's active lifestyle included regular walks around the city lake in Sullivan, and she even completed the Race to the Rocker in her later years.

Mona loved classic country music and her sense of humor was infectious. She delighted in the fun of dressing up for Halloween, bringing smiles and laughter to all who crossed her path. Above all, Mona was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, whose love and guidance were the cornerstones of her family.
