Mitchell Paul Stroup, 67, of Sullivan, MO passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 7, 2024. Born at his grandpa’s house in Sullivan on September 10, 1956 to Woodrow and Grace (Mercer) Stroup, Mitch's life was defined by his enduring spirit of adventure and his unwavering love for his family and community.

A lifelong resident of Sullivan, Mitch grew up amidst the beauty of nature that he so cherished throughout his life. He attended local schools and graduated from Sullivan High School with the class of 1974, where he was known for his quick wit and boundless energy. Mitch's passion for learning and his love for his hometown remained constant as he matured into a man of many talents and interests.

In December of 1976, Mitch married Christine Snell, and together they welcomed their son, Joshua, into the world.  Sadly, they divorced in the late 1990s. Mitch began working at Pea Ridge Iron Ore Company in the late 1970s, dedicating a decade of hard work before joining Fidelity Communications in 1991. At Fidelity, Mitch's career spanned over three decades until his retirement in early 2021. Throughout his tenure, he assumed various roles, from lineman to central office technician and safety coordinator, always bringing his trademark humor and dedication to his work.

Beyond his professional life, Mitch was a respected member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3781. His commitment to service was evident in his tireless volunteering efforts, both with the Eagles and at numerous local charity events. Mitch's selflessness and willingness to lend a hand were hallmarks of his character, and he left an indelible mark on the community he held so dear.

Mitch's interests were as wide-ranging as his skills. An outdoorsman at heart, he relished the time spent in his garden, tending to the plants, cutting wood, or simply enjoying the act of burning brush. His love for the outdoors extended to his culinary pursuits; he was known for his prowess at the grill and his delicious home-canned goods. An adept welder, Mitch could often be found in his workshop, crafting and repairing with an artist's touch.

Family and friends benefited from Mitch's adventurous spirit and loving nature. He was always ready to share a funny story, embark on a spontaneous trip, or explore the rich tapestry of history. His trips to national parks out West were among his most cherished adventures, as they combined his love for history and the great outdoors.
