Martha “Marty” E. Jones, 72, of Sullivan, MO, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Mercy Hospital – Washington.

Marty was born June 11, 1948 in Sullivan, Missouri, to Clarence and Ruth (Humphrey) Gargus. She grew up and attended Old Morrilton Elementary and Middle School, and later graduated from Sullivan High School. After graduation, Marty drove a truck for some time.

Marty was blessed with two sons: John and Gary. After the birth of her sons, she attended Weeks Beauty Academy and opened her own salon and ran it for seven years. She then went back to school to become an LPN. Upon graduating from East Central College, she went straight to work at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital. Marty retired from the hospital in 1998, and then went to work for Attending Angels Home Care up until 2020.

It wasn’t until later in life that Marty met her best friend and the love of her life, Gerry Jones. They were united in marriage on June 6, 1990 and created countless memories together. Marty and Gerry were very family oriented and were thrilled to blend their families as one. Marty and Gerry were soulmates from the beginning. Sadly, Gerry passed away in 2000.

Marty was known to be a very loving, compassionate woman, who was full of life. She loved to spend time outdoors, fishing, boating and camping. She was strong willed, a fighter, and most of all, a caretaker. Her family was everything to her and she would do anything for them. Mary was also a member of the VFW Women’s Legion Auxiliary in St. Clair, MO. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remember by many.

Marty is survived by her five sons: John Osick and wife, Pam,  Gary Peters, Sketer, Jimmy and Tommy; two brothers: Clarence Gargus, Jr. of Sullivan, MO, and Tom Gargus and wife, Victoria, of Reno, NV; one sister, Glenda “Gigi” Bates-Davis and husband, Lee, of Bourbon, MO; two nieces: Kelly Graddy and fiancé, John,  and Angel White; four nephews: Clayton Gargus, Carl Alexander, Matthew Bates and Lathan “Boo” Bates; a great niece, Brittany White; two step grandchildren: Tabatha Wehmeyer of Sullivan, MO, and Benjamin Hansel, Jr. of Wright City, MO; her special friends: Linda Young, Joann Hale, Annie Boyer and Rositta Miller; as well as other extended family members and friends.
