Lois Ann Deaton

Lois Ann Deaton, a loving mother, devoted wife, and renowned chef, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023, in Sullivan, Missouri. Born on December 14, 1958, in Glencoe, Missouri, Lois spent her childhood in Lonedell, where she met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart, John Deaton. The two were united in marriage on July 3, 1975, and were blessed with four wonderful children: John, George, James, and Lois.

Lois' journey with John took them from Missouri to San Diego, where John served in the US Navy. During their time in California, Lois attended the Culinary Arts Program at the University of California, San Diego, where she honed her culinary skills and later became a four-star chef. Her talent and passion for cooking led her to work at the prestigious Hotel Del Coronado for many years, where she delighted guests with her exquisite dishes.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Lois was a woman of many interests and talents. She found joy in creating beautiful wedding cakes in her retired years, a testament to her artistic flair and culinary expertise. Lois was also a skilled knitter and crocheter, creating beautiful pieces for her family and friends. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her passion for fishing and gardening. Lois was also a collector of Bohemian Glass.

Lois' generosity extended beyond her family and friends. She had a heart of gold and dedicated her time to caring for disabled individuals, touching many lives with her kindness and compassion. Her infectious smile and laughter brightened the lives of those around her. Lois also knew how to enjoy the finer things in life, and she loved to relax with a good glass of wine from time to time.

She is survived by her loving husband, John of Stanton, Missouri; four wonderful children: John Deaton and wife Sheila of Saint Clair, MO, George Deaton and wife Melissa of Woodlands, AL, James Deaton and wife Yessica of San Antonio, TX and Lois Anderson and husband Milo of Villa Ridge, MO; nine grandchildren: Brianna, Damion, Tiffany, Abigail, Courtnay, Cameryn, Nate, Mattias and Emma; a brother, Carl Gilmore of Corpus Christi, TX, a sister, Susan Hienzel and husband Paul of Eureka, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Florence Gilmore; two brothers, Danny Gilmore and Allen “Junior” Gilmore.

Arrangements for cremation have taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
