Leroy V. Thompson

s born August  26, 1938 to Virgil and Marie Thompson in Sullivan, Missouri. He went to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri for boot camp, and then  to Fort Monmouth New Jersey. He went to his first overseas duty station in Germany, where he met the Jove of his life Ingeborg. They spent sixty-three wonderful years together.

Leroy was  honorably  retired  from  the  United States Army 82nd Airborne Division in  1978 after 20 years of service as a Chief Warrant Officer 2. He then moved his family back home to Sullivan, Missouri for a few years before starting his second career with   McDonnell Douglas Aerospace and Boeing. He worked on the Harpoon missile. the Avenger missile system and the V-22 Osprey programs. He retired from Boeing after  twenty years and moved to Pensacola to be near his sister and brother-in-law.

Leroy was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. After retirement, Leroy enjoyed traveling, cruising and trips to Germany. He also loved polka music. He was a devoted  husband, father and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by:

His father Virgil Stanley Thompson;

Mother Alberta Marie Thompson;

Sister Kathy Ann Thompson.

He is survived by:

His wife Ingeborg Thompson of Florida;

Son Robert L. Thompson and partner Elizabeth Duckett of Missouri;

Son Michael L. Thompson and wife Lynda of Colorado;

Grandsons Ryan and Dylan Thompson of Colorado;

Brother Jim Thompson and wife- Jackie of Missouri;

Brother Gerold Thompson and wife Rita of South Carolina;

Sister Shirley Robinson and husband Edward of Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in his honor to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or another children’s charity.
