Larry Dean Light, 57, of Sullivan, MO, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at Missouri Baptist Hospital – Sullivan.

Larry was born on July 31, 1963, to Edward William Light and Anna Marie (Doyle) Light, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. He grew up in Stanton, MO, and was a graduate of Sullivan High School, class of 1981. From an early age, he found his love for music and playing the guitar. In school, he played the French horn and was in jazz band and marching band. Larry continued to accelerate at playing the guitar in numerous bluegrass bands. He also loved to attend and play at Bluegrass festivals, and was known to be one of the greatest flat pickers around!

After school, Larry became a carpenter apprentice and eventually became a Millwright in the union. At the time of his passing, he was in the local Millwright 716 with the St. Louis Carpenter Council.

Larry married Sheree Cooper on April 29, 1989, in Sullivan, MO. To their union, their children, Laramee, Jessica, Jared and Rayana were born. Larry was a man of many talents and hobbies. He was an avid hunter and trout fisherman, he loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals and collecting Coleman lanterns. He was the best pawpaw to his grandson, Luka. Larry was known to light up any room he was in, and to him, no one was a stranger. Those who had the privilege of knowing Larry will always remember the great memories that were made and the good laughs. Larry’s family was his whole world and proudest accomplishment. He will be deeply missed by so many.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sheree Light of Sullivan, MO; three of his children: Jared Light, Laramee Sojka and husband Spencer, and Rayana Light, all of Sullivan, MO; his grandson, Luka Sojka; mother-in-law, Dorothy Cooper of Sullivan, MO; two brothers, Herman Light and wife Stephanie of Sullivan, MO, and Gary Light and wife Mary of Merritt, MI; one sister, Donna Bell and husband Bob of Sullivan, MO; a brother-in-law, Kevin R. Cooper of Sullivan, MO; a sister-in-law, Sheila Cooper and husband Kevin of Bourbon, MO; his band members of Alex Riffle and The Stiff Riffs and our bluegrass family; his dog, Khloey; his rabbit, Tucker; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jessica; his parents, Edward and Anna Light; his father-in-law, Aldo Cooper; two brothers-in-law, Jeffrey and Roy Cooper; and his dogs, Peanut and Ditto.

Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2021 at the Sullivan High School Theatre.

Funeral services was 11 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2021 at the Sullivan High School Theatre, officiated by Pastor Matt Dudley. Interment followed in Stanton Cemetery.
