Julia (Bookhout) Saltzman

The family of Julia (Bookhout) Saltzman is saddened to announce her passing on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the age of 83. She was surrounded by her loving family as she entered her eternal home. Julia was born January 2, 1941, on the family farm in Stoutland, MO, to Ferd & Virginia (Bradley) Bookhout. At the age of 12 she was baptized in Sellers Creek in Richland, MO. In 1957, Julia was joined in marriage to George Saltzman. Their union blessed them with seven children: Alisa, Mary, David, Valerie, Christopher, Christian, and Melinda.

 

Julia was an active member of Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan and served in various leadership positions. Julia loved being involved with church and in her later years she received much joy from helping with the Trunk or Treat, buying coats and school supplies for the local schools, and going on the Wyoming mission trip. At the age of 63 she fulfilled a lifelong dream by going on a medical mission trip to Africa with fellow nurses.

 

In 1975, Julia began attending nursing school. Graduating with high honors, she worked for Sullivan Community Hospital & Missouri Baptist Hospital for 30 years. She was known for her dedication, professionalism, and love for her patients and co-workers. She would often wait after her shift and take patients home who did not have a ride and or work a double shift if needed.

 

Julia was an avid reader and lover of books and a well-known patron of the local library. She loved Elvis, fried chicken, scary movies, animals, gardening, cooking, being a homemaker, and most of all, her beloved family. She was most happy when surrounded by her loved ones at a family gathering.

 

Julia is preceded in death by her parents, Ferd and Virginia Bookhout; her twin sons, Christopher Jon and Christian Jay; two infant sisters, Linda and Rose; and her brother and sister in-law, Joe Don and Kay Bookhout.

 

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband; George Saltzman; her children:  Alisa Scantlan and husband Steve, Mary Hopkins and husband Roger, David Saltzman, Valerie Lore and husband Hank, and Melinda Lahmann and husband Brandon; her grandchildren: Daniel Scantlan, Brooke Strube and husband Jim, Brittany Schatz and husband Brad, George David Saltzman and wife Andrea, Christopher Saltzman and wife Rachel, Nicholas Saltzman, Alexandria Lore and significant other Justin Kutay, Savannah Lore and husband Michael Wyatt, Brianna Lore and significant other Drew Thurmond, Elleanor Lahmann, and Maddeline Lahmann; her great- grandchildren:  Evan, Gianna, & Alisyn Scantlan, Trevor Carey, Haleigh Wright, Barrett, Ruthie, & Bo Schatz, Konner & Morgan Saltzman, Evan, Allie, Henry, & Olivia Saltzman, Elizabeth Saltzman, and Rosie Thurmond: her sister, Janice Bookhout and brother, Paul Bookhout, both of Springfield, MO; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Crow Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.        

Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

 

Memorial contributions may be given in Julia’s memory to the Missions Fund of Temple Baptist Church.
