Judy A. McFarland

Judy A. McFarland, 81, of Sullivan, Missouri, journeyed to her heavenly home on Monday, August 5, 2024 while surrounded by her loving family.
Judy Ann McFarland was born on February 14, 1943, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Herschel and Catherine (Waterfield) Sumners. Judy's childhood years were spent attending grade school at Jefferson Elementary and Horace Mann Elementary, culminating in her graduation from Smith Cotton High School. Judy furthered her education as she attended college courses at Central Missouri State University (CMSU).
In 1954, Judy professed her faith in Christ and was baptized, marking the beginning of a spiritual path that would guide her throughout her life. Her devotion to her faith was unwavering and a source of strength and comfort to her and those she loved. In 1962, Judy was united in marriage to Robert Grochmal. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Angela and Robin. Sadly, they later divorced. Judy then relocated to Sullivan, Missouri, where she continued to raise her daughters with love and dedication as a single mother.
Judy soon began working at Shoney's and Aerofil, where she made many lasting friendships. Her life took a joyful turn when she married Howard Gargus in 1979, blending their families and welcoming his two daughters, Jaimie and Melissa, into her heart. Howard would later pass away in 1989.
In 1996, Judy found love once more with Ron McFarland. They remained in Sullivan and became active members of the Temple Baptist Church. Judy and Ron shared countless moments of joy and companionship until Ron's sudden passing in February of 2022.
Judy's early love for drama and her gift for writing blossomed into a passion for poetry and storytelling. She had an innate ability to uplift others through her words, whether it was bringing laughter or offering encouragement from God's Word. Judy took great pride in raising her daughters to lead productive lives and in instilling in them a profound knowledge of God. Her love for sending thoughtful cards to her dear friends was just one of the many ways she expressed her care and affection.
Judy served her community while in the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), Women Aglow, and as a Trustee for the Oak Grove community.
If Judy were here today, she would undoubtedly remind us, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and follow him for true fulfillment." This simple yet profound message encapsulates the essence of Judy's life—a life lived with purpose, faith, and an unwavering commitment to her beliefs.
Judy is survived by her four loving daughters: Angela Howard and husband Warner of Springfield, Missouri, Robin Betz and husband Chuck of Saint Clair, Missouri, Jaimie Kleekamp and husband Greg of Washington, Missouri and Meslissa Sheehan and husband Dan of Saint Charles, Missouri; 14 grandchildren: Miranda Flerlage and husband Matt, Anthony Howard and wife Elizabeth and Brandi Howard, Jordan Betz and wife Alyssa, Jazmyn Tuescher and husband Jonathan, Liam Usery, Madison Kleekamp, Abigail Kleekamp, Audri Hagadorn and husband Brenden, Breanna, River, Anthony, and Chris Sheehan and Jenifer Gargus; 7 great – grandchildren; a life long friend, Carolyn DeBrecht of Sullivan, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
