Juanita Marie Scott
Juanita Marie Scott, long time resident of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Monday, December
12 at the age of 94. Juanita was born to John and Ona Mae Pursley of Robertsville, MO. She
was raised in a farmhouse along Little Calvey Creek and lived and worked for a doctor’s
family to attend Pacific High School.
After meeting Morris Scott, who returned from WWII in 1946, Juanita married and moved to
Sullivan to raise a family. Their marriage celebrated 68 years of commitment and they were
blessed with four girls.
Juanita worked as a payroll clerk at Paramount Cap Manufacturing for 38 years while raising a
family. After retiring from Paramount, she loved politics and was an election poll worker for 10
years.
Volunteer work was always a priority for Juanita. As Morris served for 55 years with the
Sullivan Volunteer Fire Department, Juanita gave her time to the Ladies Auxiliary which raised
thousands of dollars to help keep the then all volunteer fire department rolling
Juanita was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where for many years she served as a
Sunday school teacher to boys aged 10 to 12.
Juanita was a member of the Bourbon Quilters’ Guild. She won several ribbons including
“Best in Show” for her many beautiful quilts.
She was an avid gardener and was a member of the Sullivan Garden Club, winning “Lawn of
the Year” one summer.
Juanita also volunteered and was a member of the board with the Harney Mansion
Foundation for several years believing lessons learned during the country’s civil war era need
to be preserved.
If you knew Juanita, you understood great food was her passion and she loved cooking large
meals and entertaining. As an avid reader, her home is full of books and she loved all kinds of
music, singing in the church choir for many years.
Juanita is survived by four children; Cheryl Webb and husband Wayne of Bourbon, Mo, Sheila
Scott Paul and partner Diane Carr of Gray, Georgia, her care giver for the last 5 years,
daughter Sarina Scott and partner Nita Normand of Sullivan, and Carisa Scott and partner
Collette Calvert of Denver, Colorado; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-
great-grandchildren.
Services will be 12 PM Noon, Saturday, December 17, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Sullivan
with Pastor Chester Lahmann officiating. Burial will follow in Midlawn Memorial Gardens in
Union, Mo.
Visitation will be 10 AM to 12 PM, Saturday, prior to the service at First Baptist Church of
Sullivan.
Grandson Curtis Paul said it was an ‘honor’ to memorialize his grandma and will share stories
of how she was a fabulous cook and a sweet, sweet woman.
Memorial contributions in Juanita’s memory may be made to the American Heart & Stroke
Association or the American Diabetes Association.
