Joseph J. Hoke, Sr., 86, of Union, MO, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Dunsford Court in Sullivan.

Joseph Jennings Hoke, Sr. was born in Blackwater, MO on March 18, 1936 to Francis and Elizabeth (Thorp) Hoke. He grew up and attended school in Otterville, Missouri and eventually relocated to the Sullivan/Union area. He spent most of his working life employed by the Chrysler Corporation, retiring in March of 1994.

Outside of his working life, Joe loved to spend time outdoors, boating on the lake, going for walks, and watching birds. His most precious prize in life was his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed buying season passes to Six Flags and taking his grandchildren there and also supporting them at their t-ball and baseball games.

Joe was a hardworking, faithful Christian man, and could often be found volunteering at the mission, cutting grass for his home church and church camps, and always lending a helping hand to those in need. He will be so dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

Joe is survived by his eight children: Joseph Hoke, Jr. of Cuba, MO, Brenda Hoke of Union, MO, Julie Spencer of Denham, LA, Judy “Annie” Switzer and husband Larry “Luke” of Cuba, MO, Earl “Dink” Hoke of Sullivan, MO, Mary Heisman and husband Robert of Cuba, MO, Cindy Montgomery and husband Daniel of Union, MO, and Tim Hoke of Leasburg, MO; a daughter-in-law, Tara Hoke of Robertsville, MO; 32 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three brothers: Frank Hoke and wife Henrietta of Sullivan, MO, Tom Hoke and wife Charlotte of Sullivan, MO, and Don Hoke and wife Sue of Saint Clair, MO; a sister, Ida “Kitty” Adams of Bourbon, MO; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert “Robby” Hoke; two grandsons, Joseph Turner & Steven Knoblock; two brothers, Francis Hoke, Jr. & Jim Hoke; and a son-in-law, John Spencer.

Funeral Services were 2 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan – with Pastor Chester Lahmann officiating.

Visitation was 12 - 2 p.m., Friday, prior to the service at Eaton Funeral Home.
