John R. Hutson, 57, of Sullivan, MO, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, October 1, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Johnny Ray Hutson was born June 2, 1964 in St. Louis, MO, to Robert Ray and Catherine Maudine (Morgan) Hutson. He grew up and attended Dewey Elementary School in St. Louis and graduated from Soldan International Studies High School. John was united in marriage to Rebecca S. Medlin (Archer) on September 29, 1989, in St. Louis, MO. John happily inherited two children, Stacy Renee and David Andrew.

John was a devoted, reliable volunteer firefighter for thirty-six years. During those years, he volunteered for Cedar Hill, Boles and Eureka Fire Departments. For several years, he also volunteered his time as a First Aid Responder for Dayspring Bible Camp in Ironton, MO, as well as being a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children. John also worked as a Security Officer, Corrections Officer and Safety Coordinator for the State of Missouri Department of Corrections.

In his free time, John enjoyed drawing, playing Candy Crush, and photography. Throughout the years, he attended Valley Park Chapel, Jefferson City Bible Chapel, Central Baptist Jefferson City, Sullivan Christian Church and First Baptist Church of Sullivan. John will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Rebecca Hutson, of Sullivan, MO; one daughter, Stacy Pauley and husband Richard of Byron, IL; one son, David Medlin and wife Bea of San Antonio, TX; his father, Robert “Bob” Hutson, of Bourbon, MO; his sister, Sandra Shockley and husband Michael of Cuba, MO; one sister-in-law, Kim Hutson of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren: Grace (Gracie Bones), Joel, Ben and Christopher; and other extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Cathy Hutson; and one brother, James “Rusty” Hutson.

Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Sullivan.

Funeral Services were at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Sullivan, with Pastors Daryl Lynn and Chester Lahmann officiating. Interment followed in Bourbon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in John’s memory may be made to First Baptist Church of Sullivan.
