John M. Eaton, 70, of Quincy, Illinois, passed away at his home on June 25, 2023.

John was born August 22, 1952 to the late Harrison M. Eaton and Ethel Trout Eaton of Sullivan, Missouri.  He attended all 12 grades of school in Sullivan and graduated from Sullivan High School in 1970.  He attended East Central College in Union, Missouri earning a two-year degree there.  He then attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1974.  After graduating he attended St. Luke’s College of Nursing in Kansas City and graduated in 1976.  After working two years in the Recovery Room at St. Luke’s Hospital, he was accepted to Anesthesia School in Springfield, Missouri.  He was accredited as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in 1980.

In 1977 John married Carol Hackney of Kansas City, Missouri. In 1983 they became the parents of twins, Andrew Michael and Alison Michelle Eaton.  John and Carol divorced in 2016.

John worked as a Nurse Anesthetist in Columbia, Washington, Cape Girardeau and Sullivan, all in Missouri.  John was active in First Baptist Church, Washington, Missouri; Lynwood Baptist and Bethany Baptist Churches in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan, Missouri and Lighthouse Baptist Church in Quincy, Illinois.

John loved to fish, hunt and make people laugh. He loved his brothers and sisters, his children and grandchildren.

Surviving is his daughter Alison (Matt) Cagle of Wylie, Texas and their children, Haddon and Corrie Cagle; a son Dr. Andrew (Madison) Eaton of Edmond, Oklahoma, and their boys James, Eli and Luke Eaton.  Also surviving is his brother Chuck (Marcia) Eaton of Hebron, Connecticut; his sister Mary Eleanor (Dr. Sam) Farrell of Washington, Missouri; and his twin- brother Jim (Mary Ann) Eaton of Dawsonville, Georgia; sister in law, Kathleen Eaton, widow of Harry Eaton. He was fond of his many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 AM, Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO.
