John D. Schmidt, 66 of Washington, MO formerly of Sullivan passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022.

John David was born on March 26, 1956 in Washington, Missouri to Newell A. and Shirley Mae (Schlueter) Schmidt. He attended Saint Anthony Catholic grade school and graduated from Sullivan High School in the class of 1974. John attended Missouri Western in St. Joseph, MO to play football then transferred to the University of Missouri - Rolla to obtain his degree in Petroleum Engineering Management in 1979. John was employed by Blackmore and Glunt from 1979 until retirement in 2018 and continued on a consulting basis until his passing.

John met the love of his life, Kelly, in 2010 and together were united in marriage on August 23, 2014 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in House Springs, Missouri.  They truly enjoyed every day of their life together and John quickly became more than a stepdad to his family as he embraced the joy of being a father and a grandfather.

John was vibrant. He was interested in everyone and everything. He always took the time to talk to people and find out who they were. John loved spending time with his family and friends, especially time spent on his farm outside of Sullivan.

He had a passion for learning everything there was to know about subjects from chainsaws, tractors, pump systems and machinery to politics, investing, baseball and everything in between. He could fix anything. He was tenacious and would spend hours or days researching a broken machine until he completed the repair. He would always try “one more thing” and never gave up. John was also that way with the people in his life. He rushed to the side of anyone who needed him- with a smile on his face and an upbeat attitude-ready to help.  He was everyone’s go-to-guy.

John was a parishioner at Most Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eureka and previously Ascension Catholic Church in Chesterfield where he served on the Facilities Committee and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife Kelly Schmidt of Washington, MO; his mother, Shirley Schmidt of Sullivan, MO;  three children, Angel Beaman and husband Kyle of Eureka MO, Gina Dale and husband Mathew of Eureka, MO, Nate Kothe and wife Sarah of O’Fallon, MO;  three grandchildren, Piper, Billy, and Samara; three brothers, Joe Schmidt and wife Rebecca of Waukee, IA, Matt Schmidt and wife Kaye of Sullivan MO, Rick Schmidt of Sullivan MO; one sister, Beth Smith and husband Dan of Billings, MT; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
