James D. Hicks Jr.

James D. Hicks Jr., 46, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away peacefully, Friday, November 19, 2021 at Missouri Baptist Hospital – Sullivan, surrounded by his loving children.

James Dale Hicks, Jr. was born on February 12, 1975 in Saint Louis, Missouri to James and Judy (Teal) Hicks. He grew up and attended school at Hazelwood East, graduating in the class of 1993. After graduation, James worked for his father at Above Board Concrete as a laborer, attended a trade school & obtained his CDL, and even started his own lawn care business, Clean Cut.

He was later blessed with his two children, James Hicks III and Autumn.

James eventually went to work for the Parks and Rec Department for the city of Clayton. James was a faithful employee to the city of Clayton, and just celebrated 20 years of employment with them.

Outside of working, he loved to build things with his hands. James was a great craftsman and overall, a jack of all trades. He also enjoyed spending much of his time at Woodland Lakes. He often called the lake his paradise.

James loved his children dearly and found humor in waking them up by clapping, singing and being downright obnoxious; but also giving them valuable advice. Together they enjoyed watching movies, eating at their favorite Mexican restaurant, El Nopal, and simply having a good time together.

James was loved by everyone he met. He was always loving, compassionate, very hardworking, humorous, and larger than life. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by many.

James is survived by his two children, James and Autumn Hicks, of Sullivan, Missouri; two sisters: Jesseca Willard and husband Gabe of Saint Louis, MO & Jaime Bennett and husband Eric of Troy, MO; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Judy Hicks.

Arrangements for cremation have taken place. A Celebration of Life will be planned for the Spring of 2022.

Friends may send their online condolences to James’ family at www.eatonfuneralhome.com.

All arrangements are under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Sullivan.
