Jacob ‘Lee’ Summers

Jacob “Lee” Summers of Bourbon, Missouri was born on Sunday, July 6, 1930, to William and Lennah (King) Summers. He passed away in Sullivan Missouri, on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at the age of 92.

Lee served his country in the United Stated Air Force during the Korean War. He served in Japan, Korea, and the United States. Lee received an honorable discharge after 4 years of service as a Staff SGT.

After discharge Lee attended the University of Missouri and learned to be a printer. He worked for the Bourbon Standard, Columbia Daily Tribune, and the Sporting News in St. Louis.

He was an entrepreneur and owned several businesses including the Dime Store in Bourbon, and laundry mats in Crawford and Franklin Counties. He also owned a propane gas company.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, William, and Lenna Summers, two sisters, Glenna Jenkerson and Mabel Brewer, five brothers, Clark, Ernest (Bill), Edwin, Eugene, and Bobby.

Lee is survived by his wife of 40 years, Irene, grandson Jesse Hartung both of Bourbon; special nephew Kerry Summers and wife Debbie of Steelville; other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St., Cuba, Missouri.

Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home with Kerry Summers officiating.

Interment with full military honors followed at the Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Missouri Veterans Home of St. James.

The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Summers family.
