Homer L. Britton, age 86, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Phelps Health of Rolla, Missouri.

Homer was born on January 27, 1935 in St Louis, Missouri, to William Rainey Britton and Stella (Britton) Dotson. As a young boy there was a time when his parents were unable to care for him, so he lived with several different family members. He was eventually taken in and raised by his Uncle Floyd and Aunt Jewel in Cherryville, Missouri, and they raised him as one of their own. During these years, Homer gave his heart to Jesus as a little boy at Cherryville Baptist Church. As he grew, he became quite the basketball star at Cherryville High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army. In 1955, Homer married Lorraine Landis and to this union five children were born:  Jonathan Chase, Britt, Rick, Missy, and Tania.  He later married Edna Jarvis on May 23, 1977 and their daughter, Courtney was born to this union.  Homer served 2 years in the Army as a cook, which would last with him for a lifetime as he pursued many jobs and started businesses. Among the most known ones he owned a landscaping business, a gas station, he became a meat salesman, a meatcutter at the IGA in Sullivan and finally as he opened Homer’s BBQ where he ran and operated his restaurant for 32 years. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Sullivan for 40+ years. He was always ready to share the Good News of Jesus with everyone he met. In fact, he would often host prayer breakfasts at the restaurant, inviting people to come read the Bible, pray and have a good meal.  He was known to help those in need, whether they needed prayer, some financial help or a warm plate of food. He built wheelchair ramps with a team of people for those who needed help in the area.  He always wanted to live his life reflecting the love and grace that Jesus had shown him, by extending the same to every person he met. He will be remembered and missed by everyone who knew him.

Homer is survived by his six children, Jonathan Chase Britton (Homer Lee Jr.) and wife Judy, Britt Britton (Candy), Rick Britton and wife Carmela, Missy Wetzker and husband Orlin, Tania Pryor and Courtney Mathis and husband Micah; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Edna F. Britton; his parents, William Rainey and Stella (Dotson) Britton; his step-father, Cecil Dotson; an infant sister, Alberta Britton; and his Uncle and Aunt Floyd and Jewel Britton.
