Gladys Pennock

Gladys Pennock, age 96, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2021 at Meramec Nursing Center in Sullivan. 

Gladys Irma was born in Bourbon, MO, Oct. 16, 1924, to Charles and Lenner (King) Payne. She was united in marriage to James “Elzie” Pennock on June 14, 1940, in Cuba, MO. To their union, a son was born, Joseph. Elzie and Gladys made their home in Sullivan, where Gladys was a homemaker and raised their son. After Joe was grown, Gladys was employed by Central Market, offering sample foods to customers. She was an excellent seamstress and made most of her own clothing. Gladys was a Christian lady and had attended Faith Mission Tabernacle in Bourbon for many years. She was the last sibling of the Payne family to pass and will be missed by all who knew her. 

Gladys is survived by her son, Joe Pennock and wife, Judy, of Sullivan, MO; two grandchildren, Shellie Camp and husband, Steve, of St. James, MO, and Alex Pennock of Sullivan, MO; one step grandson, Daniel Schroeder; two great-grandchildren, Jesse Camp and wife, Amber, of Sullivan, MO, and Joshua Camp and wife, Casey, of Bourbon, MO; two step great-grandchildren, Gavyne and Gage Schroeder; four great-great-grandchildren: Greyson, Archer, Mason and Boston; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elzie Pennock; her parents, Charles and Lenner Payne; three brothers: Edgar, Joseph and Herman Payne; and six sisters: Kavel Sullivan, Annie Ray, Opal Tourville, Mae Wymer, Virginia Bandy and Golden Miller. 

Funeral services were at 12 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastor Eric Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Bourbon Cemetery. 

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, prior to the funeral service at Eaton Funeral Home.
