Everett Brake
Everett “Susie” Brake, 85, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021 at Life Care Center of Sullivan.
Everett Due Wain Brake, known as Susie, was born on December 24, 1935 in Sullivan, MO, to Walter and Mildred (Wright) Brake. He attended grade schools at the Miller School in Japan, MO, and Shenandoah, IA. He completed his freshman and sophomore years in Shenandoah, and his junior and senior years at Sullivan High School. Susie honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1955.
Susie was united in marriage to Martha Froning on July 20, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Gray Summit, MO. They made their home in the St. Louis area for about 23 years, and during this time Susie was employed by Bauman Safe Company, Clayton and Washington School Districts and Fontbonne College. In 1980, Susie and Martha purchased their family farm in Bourbon. Susie loved the farm and spent many hours working on the farm and just being outdoors. His final job was working in maintenance at the St. Louis Arch, for which he was very proud of.
In his free time, Susie worked the polls for Crawford County, enjoyed RV camping, square dancing, attending American Legion Baseball and many High School sporting events. He and Martha religiously attended and supported high school sporting events for many years.
Susie is survived by his wife, Martha Brake of Sullivan, MO; one daughter, Gwendolyn Sue Kennedy and husband John of Barnhart, MO; one granddaughter, Rylee Kennedy of Barnhart, MO; two step-grandchildren, Andrea Escobar and family of Arnold, MO, and John Kennedy IV and family of Rincon, GA; special nephew, Phillip Brake Jr. and wife Chris of Bourbon, MO; two brothers-in-law, Jim Froning of Union, MO, and Gary Froning and wife Kathy of Washington, MO; as well as other nieces and nephews, extended relatives and friends, and his beloved dog, Missy B.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Brake; his mother and stepfather, Mildred and Vernon Foster; and three brothers: Vernon, Phillip, Sr. and Melvin Brake.
