Evelyn Ann Coffman, age 99 of Sullivan, MO, passed away on August 15, 2024 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. She was born on December 13, 1924 in Manitowoc, WI, to Edmund and Sylvia Mrotek. She met her husband, Arvin A. Coffman, when he was serving on the USS Razorback which was being repaired. It was love at first sight and they married in Manitowoc before his submarine returned to the Pacific to help win WWII. They lived in Wisconsin, Missouri, California, and Washington during their marriage; returning to Missouri for their retirement years. They were married 56 years until his death and to this union there were 7 children.

 

Evelyn was devoted to her large family and appreciated the uniqueness of each individual. She loved and enjoyed reading, knitting numerous items for family, making Christmas ornaments and stockings, and gardening. She enjoyed traveling across the country with her husband. After his death, she traveled to Hawaii several times with her daughters and then, developed a love for cruising. She visited Alaska, Belize, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Panama, Roatan, and most of the Caribbean Islands.

 

Evelyn is survived by five children: James M. Coffman and his wife, Angie of Fairfield, CA, Marilyn Moore and her husband, Bill of Fort Mohave, AZ, Marjorie “Maggy” Hansen and her partner, Gary LaFreniere of Quilcene, WA, Catherine Coffman of Eugene, OR, and Peter Coffman and his partner, Marian Kissinger of Ramona, CA; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Coffman of Sullivan, MO; twelve grandchildren: Jack Shepherd and his wife, Kathy of Rolla, MO, Becky Coffman Halfaker and her husband, Doug of Sullivan, MO, Rob Coffman and his wife, Leslie of Leasburg, MO, Kathleen Fannan of Vacaville, CA, Craig Coffman of Fairfield, CA, Jeff Moore of Kingman, AZ and his fiancé, Krista Pfeffercorn of Sacramento, CA, Tim Moore and his wife, Liz of Coalinga, CA, Aaron Hansen and his wife, Jennifer of Myrtle Creek, OR, Amber Dozhier and her husband, Don of Prineville, OR, Drew Coffman and his wife, Erin of Baltimore, OH, and Amy Mertz and her husband, Garrett of Ramona, CA; her great grandchildren: Kaelob Shepherd and his wife, Amy, Hannah Strothkamp and her husband, John, Jonah Shepherd and his wife, Georgina, Mason Hays, Maiyah Wagner, Vance Halfaker and his wife, Julie, Fletcher Halfaker and his wife, Devynn, Savanna Halfaker and partner, Jacob, Josiah Coffman, Bailey Moore, Michael Lillie Moore and partner, Sean, Alex Moore-Romoser and spouse, Zak, Lia Moore, Hannah Dozhier, and Savannah Hansen; thirteen great-great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy “Dolly” Dlapa of Wisconsin; two brothers: LeRoy “Lee” Mrotek of Wisconsin and James Mrotek of Chicago, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

 

Evelyn was preceded in death by husband, Arvin A. Coffman; a son, Robert Lee Coffman; an infant daughter, Janet Carol Coffman; and grandson, Christopher Coffman; her parents, Edmund and Sylvia Mrotek; two sisters, Jane Ashbaugh and Marilyn Schleis; and two brothers, Robert Mrotek and Donald Mrotek.

 

Services will be 1:15 PM, Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO with her great-grandson, Vance Halfaker officiating.
