Esther E. Akers
Esther E. Akers, 91, of Sul- livan, Missouri passed away at her home on Monday, Novem- ber 7, 2022.
Esther Elizabeth Akers was born on April 7, 1931 in Cuba, Missouri to Allen and Delila (Smith) Rogers. She grew up and attended school in the Cuba area, and shortly after was united in marriage to John Akers on November 5, 1947. To this union they were blessed with five children: John, David, Faye,Gary,&Cathy.Theycon- tinued to raise their family in House Springs, Missouri while she worked as a waitress at the Sunset 44 restaurant in Sunset Hills for 20+ years.
While raising their family, John and Esther always made it a point to take family va- cations. Some of their most memorable vacations were to Yellowstone National Park, Colorado Springs, Six Flags in Texas, where they would visit their son John while he was stationed there, and short trips across the border into Mexico. Time spent with her family was an immeasurable blessing to Esther.
After John’s retirement, they relocated to Sullivan to make it their final home. Es- ther worked as a waitress at the Cuba Country Club for a short period of time. She was a very gracious host and always had a special way of making you feel welcome in her home. Esther loved to spend time baking pies, Lemon Meringue and Coconut Crème were her specialties, and her famous chicken and dumplings were loved by everyone. In her free time, Esther enjoyed quilting. If you were going to visit her, you could plan on watching the Game Show Network or a St. Louis Cardinals game.
Esther loved her chil- dren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She always made it a point to try to attend and show her support at her grandchildren’s activities.
Even as she grew older, Esther never lost her sense of adventure. She was a “Road Runner” and traveled on many trips that were coordinated by the Bank of Sullivan, including the Ark Museum in Kentucky, and her favorite, the Mystery Tours. She loved to spend time
in Branson, Missouri touring Silver Dollar City and watch- ing her favorite show, The Baldknobbers.
Esther was an active mem- ber of the Sullivan Rebekah Lodge #319, and at one time even held the office of Noble Grand. John and Esther at- tended New Testament Bap- tist Church in Sullivan for the past 15 years.
Esther is sur vived by her four children: John Akers and wife Shelba of House Springs, MO, David Akers of High Ridge, MO, Faye Thayer and husband Steve of Fletcher, MO, and Cathy Dodson and husband Jerry of Oakville, MO; a host of grandchil- dren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Rogers of Gerald, MO; a sister, Mary Hudson of Jefferson City, MO; numerous nieces, neph- ews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a son, Gary; a grandson, Johnny Ray Akers; two brothers, Chester and Jackie Rogers; four sisters: Martha Wilcox, Sue Ellis, Ruth Jost and infant sister, Betsie.
Funeral Service were11 a.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Dave Wright officiating. Inter- ment followed at I.O.O.F Me- morial Cemetery in Sullivan.
Visitation was 4–8 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
