Ernest G. Dazey of Sullivan, MO passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at the age of 84.

Ernie was born on February 14, 1937 one of three children born to Elmer and Esther (Miller) Dazey. Ernie’s mother passed away when he was just 15 months old. Ernie was then raised with his siblings and cousins by his uncle and aunt, Harry “Red” and Andrey (Peacock) Miller.

Ernie served his country in the United States Army from 1956-1958. When Ernie arrived back home from the service he began working for Midwest Shoe Company in Sullivan, where he met his future wife, Betty Ann Sherman. Ernie and Betty were united in marriage on December 20, 1958. December of 2021, they celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage. To their union, Ernie and Betty were blessed with two children, Andrea and Andy.

After working for the shoe factory, Ernie then went to work for Pacco Corporation; first in Sullivan, then later in Washington where he remained employed for over 32 years before retiring.

Ernie was a farmer at heart. He raised cows and pigs, and occasionally tame rabbit and chickens. He loved to cut, rake and bale hay. Every year he and Betty planted and maintained a huge vegetable garden, to the benefit of their friends and neighbors. In his spare time, Ernie enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Ernie attended Faith Assembly of God in Sullivan. In addition to his love of family he especially loved the Lord. Ernie is now walking the streets of gold with those who have gone before.

Ernie is survived by his wife Betty Dazey of Sullivan, MO; two children, Andrea Holland and husband Jeff of Sullivan, MO & Andy Dazey of Sullivan, MO; seven grandchildren: Stephen Dazey and wife Christy of St. James, MO, Joseph Dazey and wife Jullian of Virginia, Sarah Dazey and fiancé Eric Campbell of Union, MO,                          Jesse Dazey and wife Lauren of North Carolina, Jordan Holland of Sullivan, MO, Lydia Cuneio and husband D.J. of Sullivan, MO, Benjamin Holland and wife Jessica of Steelville, MO; 8 great-grandchildren; an adopted son, Larry Goodman; a very special grandson, Chet Dawson; three sisters-in-law: Mary Tyree of Sullivan, MO, Phyllis Dazey of St. Clair, MO, & Marilyn Miller of Idaho; other relatives and many, many friends.

Along with his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle, Red and Audrey Miller; a brother, Leroy Dazey; a sister, Alice Gable; and a cousin/brother, Gene Miller.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Faith Assembly of God in Sullivan with Reverend Ben Holland and Pastor Ron Pettet officiating. Internment will follow at Dutch Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 - 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Faith Assembly of God in Sullivan, MO prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, donations are strongly encouraged to be made to “Whatever it Takes.”
