Edna M. Downes, 95, of Leasburg, MO, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Cuba Manor.

Edna Marie Brand was born in St. Louis, MO on November 24, 1926 to John and Josephine (Todd) Brand. She grew up and attended school in the St. Louis area, and graduated in 1944. Edna was united in marriage to her soulmate, Harry Downes, in 1952. Together they had one daughter, Sandra, whom they raised in Saint Louis. They would often spend their weekends at their vacation home in Leasburg, MO. Edna made her career in the banking industry as the Vice President of several different banks collectively for 30+ years. She devoted the last 20 years of her career to the Mark Twain Bank.

After officially retiring in 1987, Edna and Harry made their final home in Leasburg. Through the years, they enjoyed hosting many events at their home. They loved traveling and vacationing together. Alaskan cruises were Edna’s favorite. She also liked to go bowling and to the casinos in Las Vegas.

Edna loved her family so very much. Her grandson Tommy was the light of her life and her absolute pride and joy. He always took care of her. She also dearly loved her son-in-law, Bob, as a son. Edna was an avid animal lover. She was compassionate, kind, and so very generous. She will be dearly missed by all those who were fortunate to know her.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Sandra Taylor and husband Bob of Leasburg, MO; her beloved grandchildren, Tommy and Tara Taylor of Leasburg, MO; great-grandchildren, Amanda Braun and husband Darrel and Nick Callahan; a great-great-grandson, Finnley Braun; very special grandson, Leroy Callahan; granddaughter, Susan Callahan; other extended relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Downes; her parents, John and Josephine Brand; two sisters, Bernice and Barbara Wirth; and two infant brothers, John and Tommy Brand.

Services were held 10 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Interment will follow in Bourbon Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 5–7 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions in Edna’s memory may be made to HALO of Sullivan or Stray Rescue of St. Louis.
