Dwain Melvin Phelps, Jr. was born in Ironton, Missouri on December 23, 1952 to Dwain and Nelda (Midgett) Phelps, Sr. He grew up in Belgrade and the family moved to Bourbon when Dwain was 11 years old.  He graduated from Bourbon High School in the class of 1970.  Later he made many visits to Southeast Texas with brothers and friends.  He subsequently relocated to Southeast Texas and went to work for Dow Chemical.  It was Texas where he was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Melissa and Alicia.

Dwain was an avid hot rod lover. He enjoyed attending and watching drag races and working on his own vehicles at home. Dwain also enjoyed spending time mowing his lawn and landscaping. You could always find him at his home or the home of his daughters working on a DIY project.

Dwain enjoyed traveling to see his daughters and their families after they were grown and made sure that he was always available, no matter what time, day or night. He cherished time spent with them, and especially his grandchildren.
