Dorothy E. Ward, 93, of Sullivan, MO passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022.

Dorothy Evelyn was born on July 17, 1929 to James and Henrietta ( Johnson) Swim. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She would meet her future husband, George, on a blind date and they would go on to marry two weeks later. They immediately moved to Munich, Germany, known as the Black Forrest, to teach school for the United States Army dependent children from 1955 to 1965. George and Dor- othy returned to the United States with several children in tow and made their first home in Kansas, Nebraska and finally in Stanton, MO. In Stanton, they owned and operated the Pony Express Museum, which later became the Jesse James Trading Post. Dorothy really enjoyed managing the store and raising her children.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Brigetta Ward of Sullivan, MO, Rex Ward and wife Lisa of League City, TX, Rob Ward of Sullivan, MO, Amy Ward of Sullivan, MO, Zachary Ward and wife Mela- nie of Elizabeth City, NC, and Zane Ward of Union, MO; nine grandchildren: Brigetta Barrera and husband Jose, Na- tosha Solis and husband Javier, Sr. , Johnny Ryerson and wife Heather, Lucas Ryerson and wife Michelle, Dalton Ward and wife Taylor, Colton Ward, Samantha Allred and husband Michael, Cierra Rodriguez and husband A.J., and Keirsten Bridgeman and husband Gar- ry; fourteen great-grandchil- dren: Michael Barrara and wife Meagan, Joseph Barrera and wife Alejandra, Desiree Eagle and husband Rob, Javier Solis, Jr., Anthony Solis and wife Ashlee, Andrew Solis and wife Kloe, Cameron and Addison Ryerson, Hazel Ry- erson, Kendall, Kenslie and Baylee Bridgeman, Adelyn Rodriguez, and James Ward; seven great-great-grandchil- dren: Corbin, Ximena, Samuel, Elliot, Ryett, Collynnes and Greenly; one brother, Max Swim and wife Joyce of Ar- kansas; a sister, Amy Percival and husband Milt of Arizona; and one sister-in-law, Bernice Swim of Maryville, KS.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George Ward; one grandson, Zachary Ward; her parents, James and Henrietta Swim; two brothers, Jim Swim and Rex Swim and wife Mary Kay; and son-in- law, John Ryerson.

Dorothy’s farewell will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, No- vember 18, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with Pastor Matt Dud- ley officiating. Interment will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
